Any pc Light guns that look/resemble T2 or Operation Wolf?
« on: July 03, 2003, 08:09:52 pm »
Any light guns for PC that resemble the "Uzi" look of the T2 or Operation Wolf Arcade guns?  Also, for those that have light guns (any kind) and run a Windows port of Mame (e.g. Mame32) What are your thoughts as you play T2, operation wolf, Area 51, etc...  is it realistic?  Can you hold down the trigger like an "automatic" ?

I have an operation wolf gun, and i am thinking of gutting it, placing a light gun inside of the metal casing with the trigger exposed, and mounting it, but I don't want to waste my time buying a light gun if they suck when used in Mame32.  thanks!  If there is a good looking PC gun, I'll go that route instead.

wow, wow, wow! Why don't you just hack that positional gun to be just that! It will only work well w/ T2 and opwolf though. A positional gun isn't too great for a game like Area 51.

I have an SNK Uzi lightgun (not positional) with recoil.  I forget which game cabinet it came from, but this type is probably what you want and not the operation wolf one. I bought it thinking it was a positional gun (I wanted to try making a silent scope gun for my ps2) but then when I got it saw it was really a lightgun.

Now if they would only release that Namo uzi gun game for a console I would be set!

Ahh, found it.  The gun was from a "Mechanized Attack" cab.

Strange...KLOV mentions it as a positional gun.  Wrong!

A positional gun actually works pretty well for a LOT of games.  I've used mine for everything from T2 to skeet shooting.  One added advantage of using a postional gun is that you get on-screen targeting.  They might not be perfect for all games, but they're pretty playable...

If I were to add this positional gun to my CP, what's the best way to interface it?  Taking all suggestions.

You could probably apply the dual strike "logic board" swap.  It works for the T2 gun and Star Wars yoke.  Why not Operation Wolf?

I have never seen the innards of the gun you have, but I imagine it will work simiarlarly.

KLOV lists this as a positional gun - not true.  It is an optical gun - NO POTS to speak of and a light gun module inside the gun!

If it's mounted to the control panel then it's designated as a positional gun, regardless of the electronics inside.  Why?  Because it's obviously not  a light gun and the klov guys want to keep the different control types down to a minimum.

To answer an earlier question, the Act-Labs gun does not auto-fire when you hold the trigger down.  Operation Wolf is a workout!

An autofire circuit wouldn't be hard to make though..... I'm sure there is a link somewhere, just wire it in-line with the switch.

What do you mean it's not a light gun?  I have opened it up, and voila - no pots to speak of and a light gun board/apparatus at the tip of the barrel.  Maybe it is a positional gun in the sense that it is mounted to the cab, but it uses a light sensor to determine the aiming point on the screen.  The movement of the gun is restricted by springs and hinges, but there are no pots - therefore a dual strike hack won't work, unless pots are retrofitted.  Am I nuts here?

I've heard of those...

I wouldn't want to touch them though.  Light guns aren't easily hackable.... And pots are...

Get yourself some real T2 or Operation wolf pot base ones and start there.  I don't think you will have any luck with those guys...

Exactly my point lilwolf and klov's as well.

Having a mounted light gun is like having a helicoptor that's teathered to a 1 foot chain.  There isn't any point to it.  That's why it's a rarest of rare arcade controls.  Dumb ideas don't last that long.  :)

So rare that I just chucked the damn thing after saving all the springs and microswithces.  What a waste of time that idea was.  Oh well,on to bigger and better hacks.... :)
