Dos USB gamepad driver??
« on: July 03, 2003, 06:37:59 am »
Hello all,

I'm hacking a Thrustmaster USB gamepad to use for a CP. The cabinet is running Mame under DOS. Whats the best way to get Mame to recognise the USB gamepad, does it require a DOS USB driver or something??

Cheers

Dexter

Last I checked Dos did not support USB.

The Mobo supports USB in DOS but it's the gamepad thats causing the problem!

I though USB in DOS support meant that USB keyboards work in dos. Not gamepads and webcams and stuff, heck that stuff doesn't even work in the USB version of Windows 95.

Oh wow. I guess I learned something new here. Sidewinder driver is 3rd party though, right?

no disrespect to paigeoliver ;) but DOS does do USB -  for example my mobo (ECS k7s5a) has a bios setting to turn on USB support in DOS. check this first (might depend on your bios/mobo)

however I seem to recall that support was limited - don't know if gamepads are supported.

best do some googling! Good Luck

There are mass-storage drivers for DOS now.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=10215

All USB is is a serial connection. There's no reason why there shouldn't be basic functionality of devices in DOS. The only limitation is with the device drivers. So if there are no drivers written for a game pad, it's not going to work in DOS.

Since very, very, very few people have USB capable machines and use DOS, why expend the effort writing drivers for that OS?
