Anyone have the new Happ 26" LCD?
« on: May 05, 2009, 05:17:22 pm »
So I'm finally upgrading my machine to a WG D9200, but we all know CRTs don't last that long, and this one being a refurb and also out of production, it's already questionable how long it'll hold up and whether parts will be available in the future.  And the last monitor I had in there burned out instantly from accidentally having the res up too high, so there's always the human factor....

Happ has this 26" LCD on their site now.  http://www.happ.com/monitors/49286100.htm  It's supposed to mount right up in place of a 27" monitor, but it is a wide screen.  From the pics, it looks like it automatically stretches out a 4:3 image to be 16:9.  So I'm wondering if it's even possible to display a proper 4:3 image on it...

Anyone have any knowledge about this monitor?  It's a pity no one makes a 4:3 aspect mountable LCD that's at least 25"...  :'(

They are not made encased either!
21.3 inch is the biggest 4:3 screen available, and it will remain the biggest for a while until it is discontinued. These models are unaltered for 3-4 years now and too expensive compared to the bigger 16:9 ones. Better buy a 32 inch 16:9 and make a 4:3 bezel for it.
I also wonder what panel is in this Suzo product. Guess its a 16:9 1366x768 TN panel.
Here are almost all the screens ever made:

....I don't get the big deal with using a widescreen monitor and displaying games that are 4:3 in 4:3. Being horizontal, vertical games are not going to properly fit the screen width-wise, anyway, so either get fancy and make a bezel image in your FE or whatever, or deal with blank spaces (I will not say 'borders', that's just gay; 'bars' is ultra gay) during 4:3 games as well....not that I even notice the spaces during vertical game play. Then enjoy the widescreen if you play such late-model games, and if you watch movies etc on it.

Case schmase, my cab is my case!  All I want is the right aspect!

So if 1366x768 is all it does, probably better to get a Dell 24" LCD.  A little smaller but at least it does full HD.  Better for vectors.  Can't go any bigger unless I make a showcase cab...

Yes, and take an old 24 inch then. That new 16:9 hype  ??? ....
The 1200 pixel vertical ones are much bigger for 3:4 content.
On a 1920x1200 24 inch the 4:3 diagonal is 21 inch, where the 4:3 diagonal on a 16:9 is 19 inch!

I'm using one of those 21.3 inch Samsung's (4:3) for my MAME cabinet. I found a guy selling 3 of them on craigslist a few months back. I got one for $135. Newegg has a bunch of new ones but they're WAY too expensive (~$900).
