i don't know anything about the topguns...but if the PC is shocking you, you have bigger problems...unless of course you are licking the motherboard or something.

HI David,

Smogs drivers are hard to remove- use a system restore to get rid of them- ie go back to before you installed them. Then use  the genuine ems drivers

These work right out of the box fine. You are having clashes right now with them and smogs drivers

ok !

its officially screwed ! oddly the LCD-image thingy see's 2 lights on the left 3 lights on the right, which appear to come from the gun... but it will not calibrate and the pointer is hardly ever on when gun pointed at screen....

2 theory's

- smog's driver mucked it up trying to force new settings to it 'on the fly'
- when the gun handle was electricuting me..violently it some how bodged it up.

is it time to bin it and buy another victim or can it be saved?

cheers

edit: although it did work with the latest drivers would it be worth trying it with the original drivers? i have noticed that the new set of bars have 2 LED sets on each and mine has a 3 and a 2. also somewhere along the line it has stopped picking up the 'HID compliant mouse' part of it. any advice would be gratefully received

Is it a topgun or topgun2? AFAIK the original topgun had an extra set of leds- so 3 on one side and 2 on the other would be ok. Did you do a system restore to get rid of smogs driver?

But what I don't understand is the shock you are getting from the gun. Its plastic so this should not be possible. Whats more the gun is powered by maximum 5 volts so even if it were alive you would not even feel 5 volts- or maybe a slight tingle. But being plastic 5 volts won't carry. Something is wrong here. Is the gun second hand?

topgun 1

Its the 3 on the left 2 on the right strips

nope i gave up and got abusive with the pc in question, took the gun to my arcade machine today with the EMS drivers and installed them but again the HID compatible mouse part didn't seem to get detected or even be asked for by the drivers.

humm that was dead odd... i mean my PC case must of had voltage going through it or something because it was enough that you could see a light come from my finger and go to the case ! not too sure why it happened... maybe something to do with it was on the carpet or something... but it did it repeatedly.. then i unplugged it and fiddled about and it stopped.

i feel i've probably damaged the gun beyond repair now.. it was second hand but ! it was fully working for about 2 hours before i moved all my pc to try on my TV then sparks flew and that was it xD. things have a tendency to break around me on the first day of having them ! it always happens somehow.

cheers for the interest

Bugger - thats annoying. All I can think of is that the second hand gun had an issue before you got it.

I am surprised you are having trouble with the new drivers but that could be down to the gun being spiked as you say. If its any consolation I can confirm that with 2 brand new topgun2's that the drivers work perfectly- and that you only need ems drivers

I spent a fortune getting my cab right trying different things. Hey if you can stretch to it buy a brand new gun and try again

The case of your computer is NOT supposed to be electrified.  Forget the light guns and fix that.  If it's giving shocks you could easily shock a component of the computer such as the RAM, CPU or any of the different chips on the motherboard and graphics card and kill them.

Find out what is electrifying the case and fix it, even if you have to replace the CPU or case itself to do it.  It's REALLY not a safe way to operate a computer.

Nothing on that system should be electrocuting you under most circumstances unless you're jamming your fingers into power connectors or licking the I/O ports.
