Joysticks not responding
« on: May 03, 2009, 07:42:15 pm »
Hey all, over the weekend I got my Blitz 2000 Gold cab up and running with a new monitor, the only issue ive run into is that the joysticks do not respond, I ran the utility mode where you can test all the buttons and could get nothing from the joysticks. I believe the problem is with the wiring, the board that the joysticks plug into has 5 places for wiring harnesses to go to, they are all labeled 0-4 which im a bit confused by, the harnesses labeled player 1-3 all fit only in the 0,1, and 2 places.  There are also two places for fuses on the board which im also not sure about. At the moment I have the power cable (i think) going from the mainboard to a fuse then to the board for the joysticks. The harness for output is coming from the joystick cable bundle but I am unsure what to plug into the input. The only thing I have found that fits is from the mainboard  marked auxilary, i am not sure what this aux plug is for but it appears to plug into the second fuse and then into the joystick board. Can anyone verify that this is the correct setup?

Ok, well first I should ask whether you have the 49 way joysticks or regular 8-way joysticks. There seems to be an option in the settings to change the style. I assume if you have the wrong option selected, the joysticks won't give you anything.

Second, http://www.progettoemma.net/dany69/manuals/nbanfl.pdf Here is your manual. It's for both NFL Blitz 2000 gold and NBA ..... whatever gold. I haven't messed about with either of these games, but there is a wiring diagram near the end of the manual that shows the board you're trying to wire up. It should be of great help.

If you can't get the joysticks working after making sure they're connected correctly and the options are set correctly, I would suspect a bad ground or ground trace to the joysticks, possibly coming from the mainboard to this one, possibly on the I/O board itself.

Thanks for the reply. They are 49 way I believe, they are what originally came with the machine. Ill take a look at the diagram and see what I can make of it.

EDIT: Looking at the guide it indicates that the "main harness" should be connected to the input and that the auxilary board provides output from the mainboard, this must be how it works, I'll just need to pick up a fuse to pop in there and we'll see what happens. Where would the switch be to switch from 8-49 way?

I picked up matching fuse and hooked it all up, still no luck , I suspect that the I-40 optical board needs replaced, is there a way to test that its working? A multimeter reading perhaps? I cannot find one over at Happ, am I going to need to contact a Midway parts distributor?

My local Midway distributor tells me they no longer sell or make that part, is there anyone out there that owns a Blitz machine that could maybe explain to me how the joysticks are wired up or provide a picture of the joystick wiring? Im also wondering about a random molex connector on the main board and what it could be used for, I know these are used to provide power and am curious if it would provide power to the joysticks, any input would be appreciated im kind of lost here. I went ahead and purchased the exact manual for this machine off ebay, I hope that it will be a big help.

For furture reference we got the manual and it was hooked up right, we installed another fuse, unplugged and plugged some of the harnesses back in and it started working.  :applaud: Thanks all
