Good 4-way stick
« on: July 02, 2003, 11:53:54 pm »
Hello all,

I'm about to venture forth into the world of 4-way joysticks. :)  I'm refurbing an old Red Alert cab about would like to add a 4-way stick along with my 2 8-ways.  I've never looked into 4-way sticks and need some advice.   I was looking at Happs and noticed there stick has a very short shaft.  I will be mounting this on 1/2" MDF and wanna make sure it sticks up enought.  Any suggestions..I know you have em!

Thanks in advance,
mad-k

Firstly, have you used the "search" function? I know that's reall fatuous question but this topic has been pretty well covered.
Are you talking about the Happs PacMan/Galaga 4 way stick? If so then yes it is an awesome 4 way ( the best IMHO ) but if you buy it as is you won't be able to mount it in MDF as it is metal control panel only. You will need to either bmake a mounting plate or buy one. Oscar is your man for that.

If you play ANY 4-way maze games then you will want a short handled stick, and the best short handled stick is the Ms. Galapac one. Just make a mounting plate. It is easy, I did it.

Japanese stick=long handle

Long handle=long throw

Long throw=eaten by ghosts

I have that stick and very much recommend it.  It has very nimble response when playing Pacman and moving around like crazy through the maze.
I'll mount mine with a metal plate I took off an old hard drive that has the perfect hole in the middle of it.  It's only about 1/16" thick.  I'll lay lexan on top of the CP.
