Street Fighter layout distances...

Could somebody confirm these distances for me; I'll have to write them in imperial because my only hole diameters are in imperial and I don't feel like converting them right now... (I'm sure you all use inches anyway)

The street fighter layout is 3 buttons over 3 buttons, and each row is aligned straight[ly]. Like so:

Between the two middle buttons ("medium" punch and kick in street fighter lingo) is a point. Four inches above it is the centre of the start button's hole, and four inches to the left of it is the centre of the joystick's hole.

Each of the six "combat" buttons is distanced horizontally by 1-5/8", and vertically by 1-1/2" (measured from their centres). All hole diameters are 1-1/8".

How does this sound for authenticity (of at least one of the games). It should measure the same as the PDF available by Kevin.

I'm only concerned because those distances are a little uncomfortable if I hold three fingers on three buttons at a time; they seem a little far apart for me. Is this necessary to do in a real game of street fighter? Or can I hover them wherever is comfortable and still attack quickly? I've asked that question on the Shoryuken forums (or at least I will after supper), but anybody can help me with measurements.

Apparantly all button distances should be 1-1/2" apart vertical and horizontal. Still reading the 98 pages of the shoryuken custom stick thread to make sure tho.

Back when the original SFII shipped the US cabs had the Capcom 6 on a 1 1/2" grid. (measured them myself for my first Joystick)

The present overlays that Capcom Coin-OP produce/sell/market have the Capcom 6 on a 1 5/8" grid. I have some of the button overlays from Hugo. (he's the last technician in CC-OP)

sorry to bring up a new thread, but armad1||0, would you happen to have that overlay on file on a pc? .gif, .jpg, .png, anything? i would like to try to upgrade my cp, and the 6-button setup i have is using that ergonomic thing where the buttons slant. i don't like it at all. thanks in advance for any help (or even a reply sans help)

No I've not scanned it but I have two pairs of Vinyl style stick on overlays that I'm not intending to use.

FS or Trade? They are totally original Capcom NOS joystick and 6 button overlays. One sheet has two of ea.

Just to give you an idea, try this.
Take the capcom layout that was linked to by snake.
There is a PDF version, I would get that. It's a little nicer and you can tell it to print only what you want.
Next, print out a copy.
Cut the holes in the paper.
Put the paper over a shoe or cardboard box.
Mark each holes on the box.
Cut the holes out of the box.
Mount the buttons on the box.
I found this helps when laying out a CP.
When I tried this I found the layout to be dead on.
Now when I actually go to do mine, I will need to add a 7th button to the mix.

It's the mortal kombat layout but also works well for the bottom four on Neo Geo.

Its a matter of personal preference.  The best thing to do is to rig up a prototype panel with one side having straight buttons, and the other side having the curved or ergonomic buttons, then play both sides for a while and see which you are more comfortable with.

that was my problem. i had ergonomic controls, but ended up hating them for gmes like sf2. now  just want a plain sf overlay, thanks to others i found it
