Betson Imperial Trackball question
« on: July 02, 2003, 11:10:38 am »
If I order one from Betson, what does the trackball include?  I am curious as I would like to get the complete set at once and pay one shipping for it.

I have noticed that on the Betson website that if you click on the small Next button after you have done a search on "trackball" you will see that they have a mounting plate for it.  If you keep clicking on the Next button you will see that they sell the refurbished one.

Which mounting plate is recommended from Betson?  I know some of us here have gotten the Happs mounting plate instead.  But I don't want to pay extra for shipping from two different vendors unless it is really worth it.

Thanks.

well it depends on which trackball you buy...

I *assume* you are going to want to buy the ps/2 3" trackball so you won't need a separate encoder (like optipac from ultimarc, or pre hacked usb mouse from oscarcontrols)

I'd pick up a mounting plate.  Did you want flush mount or do you mind if there are carriage bolts showing on the top.

Not sure if betson sells a "hardware" kit for the carriagebolts you'd need if you went with the "old school" mounting kit as opposed to the flush mount.

*shrug*  upon further review I don't think they sell a mounting plate (or at least not via their site that I could find)

this  IMP 47-4305-02   ADAPTER PLATE/ 3" TRACKBALL   $1.89   is NOT a trackball mounting plate from what I understand.

If you did end up having to go 2 vendors which it looks like you might... why not get the accessories/plate other stuff from http://www.therealbobroberts.com for better than happs prices and down home service.

good luck!

Sorry, that be the one that i am looking for.  I have a computer that I want to convert to a cabinet.  Does it come with the buttons? You know a mouse does have two or three.

Being a clueless idiot, which mounting plate from Bob Roberts would you suggest.  I would prefer a flush mount so that I can wack the ball.  But if the little dimples aren't annoying then I may deal with it.  The holes to mount the trackball to the plate should have flush screws or something flat. They just seem to close but then again I don't know. I haven't experience such thing.

Thanks again.

I bought all the joysticks and buttons and the 3/4 MDF board.  But then stopped short and wanted to install the trackball.  So that's where I am at now. Last item I need then I can start.

I too have a Beston but I'm not going to pay for a plate.  If you plan to overlay you control panel with art and/or some kind of laminate, there are many other options open to you.  These include mounting the TB through the control panel just underneath the overlay and securing the TB from underneath with an underside plate.  You could also screw the the case of the trackball to the cross section of the control panel.
Do a search for "trackball mounting" in this forum and you will find a lot more information on this.

I have and decided to get the Betson Trackball.  But the mounting is still a mixed issue as there are too many different ways such as mount it to a lexan instead of plate.  I am only in the beginning.  I think I am going to flush it with the control panel and put some contact paper on it.

J_K_M_A_N has a list of all the mounting plates on his website but it would be nice if it was indicated for which trackball. I suppose I could email him...  ::)

Did you know that I bought the buttons and joysticks over a year ago?  I was just an eager stupid idiot and when I found this website and order all the stuff from Happs.  Recently I started to figure out things and wanted a trackball.  I am getting quite tired of playing MAME with the Sidewinder. (One is hacked, the second is going to be hacked and daisychained.) Time for real arcade feel!! 8)

I really need to redo my web page. The plate I have listed is NOT the mounting plate. (47-4305-02  3" Trackball Adapter Plate....I ordered 1 to see and it is NOT) I had to order my mounting plate from Happs. I believe Bob Roberts has one also but I don't know for sure.  I ordered the 55-1101-00 - 3" mounting plate from Happs and it fit just fine with the ps/2 betson I have. I will try to update my site SOON to clear up the mounting plate deal. Good luck.

I must have screwed up the spelling, as I got something COMPLETELY different.
