Glass over Topguns - problems
« on: April 22, 2009, 08:52:00 pm »
I went to finish my cab last night and put a new clear glass over the monitor and led strips. At first I thought it was working and then I realised every shot was not registering. (The smoked glass that came with the cab did not allow the guns to work at all) I had previously just tested with a piece of scrap glass over one led strip

I *think* the problem could be a combination of three issues
1. The monitor is on a 30 degree slope. (The cab was a conversion to lethal enforcers from a joystick cab done by someone else)
2. The lighted marquee is on (although guns work fine without the glass)
3.  The led strips are not at 90 degrees (due to the slope of the monitor)

I have the strips mounted top and bottom of the monitor and I have a good shooting distance- 90 cm and its very accurate.

I have several options but none very satisfactory
1. Mount the led strips above the glass. Not good as the distance between them will go to 50 cm
2. Leave the glass off altogether and remount the original bezel with the strips attached to that. Working solution but not great
3. Mount the led strips on the glass at the original spacing- ugly

Any better ideas?

The slope of the monitor should be insignificant as I've had them working at various angles. The problem is just likely to be IR interference or light refraction as the beam passes through the perspex. You may have to just mount the sensors along the inner edges of your cabinet.

Thanks- its good to rule out the monitor slope. Yes I'm coming to that conclusion - strips inside the edges

I ended up putting the strips at the top and the bottom of the glass on the outside. Looks good and works fine
