Zinc won't exit properly when launched from Mamewah
« on: April 22, 2009, 08:45:15 pm »
All of a sudden Zinc won't exit properly when launched from mamewah. I tried exiting with the ESC key as well as Alt+F4 and what happens is that the game will quit but the mamewah frontend will display itself in a shrunken state and unable to do anything as if it's frozen. If I Ctrl-Alt-Delete it shows me that the Zinc.exe process is still running. If I end the process then the screen will flash and mamewah will be fullscreen again with full accessibility. This has never happened before and I was able to exit Zinc with no problems, then all of a sudden it doesn't want to work. I can't think of any mamewah settings that I have changed recently that could cause this and I definitely haven't changed any Zinc settings. Thanks.

I'm glad you got Zinc working at all with Mamewah - I gave up in the end as most games worth playing are covered on Playstation 1 anyway. I found the more advanced the system emulators I tried to set up, the bigger problems I had with inconsistent launching, probably caused by apps not killing themselves properly, I found this was the cause of many 'hanging' issues in my Mamewah setup.

It seems to be the only app the has trouble quitting now. I also launch Makaron and Model2 emulators from mamewah and it's seemless. What gets me is that it was working flawlessly and now it's not  ???

I occasonally get kill errors even on the most reliable platforms - sometimes ZSNES and Project64 won't exit using any key and all my controls get locked out - if I shut down the system through the power button it works fine next time. It could just be an in-built bug in the software.

I'll try the shutdown and see if that works. Funny thing is I just tried on another machine with the exact same mamewah/zinc config files, rom locations, etc. and it exited no problem.

Edit: I shutdown and tried again but it still won't work. I'm pretty sure it's a Zinc problem I just can't figure out what's causing it. I launched Zinc separately and then when I pressed ESC to quit, the game exited but hung on a command prompt window that said "Closing program...". I'd imagine this is what is causing it to not exit out of mamewah properly since it doesn't even quit properly by itself.

The only games I use it for are Tekken 1, 2, and 3 and Cool Boarders Arcade Jam. I haven't tried any of these in MAME for a long time so not sure if they work just as well as in Zinc. Last time I tried them they didn't which is why I was using Zinc.
