I have just finished updating my frontend to Mame1.30...OK I didn't but my much younger nephew did as he visited me for a couple of days...he had to go home, leaving me to tweak my machine...and I'm not near as smart as you guys...so please understand...from the pictures I see on line, most of you have cool backgrounds...not just the tan screen with the list of games on it...how do I get mine to look like yours...sorry I'm such a dunce

What front end are you using?  It depends on that.

not any help to your questin but.... there is no MAME ver 1.30
you have MAME ver 0.130

I think he has what we called Mame 32.
That's what it was called in my versions of Mame. I only go up to Mame v0.78

I am almost sure it is called Mame UI now.

I do not know if the Functions has changed any but in my versions you can hit Options and change many things
Font
game list color
background
also toggle large ICONS just below the Option button

If you want real fancy you will have to load a Frontend first.
