Found a original Galaga & Ms Pacman Cab is $450 a deal?
« on: April 20, 2009, 10:00:21 am »
Does this sound like a good deal ($450 for both) if so I would buy them A.S.A.P. ::)

This is what supposedly is wrong with them

The first is Ms Pac Man, it works fairly well but needs a new fuse or so I was told.

The second is Galaga, it turns on but the picture doesn't always show and we were told it needs a tune up.

Well I'm going to check them out tonight to get a better look @ them they claim the cabs are in excellent condition & need to be sold befor the 24th. :'(

Is it worth $450 to you?

If so, good deal, if not, bad deal.   :dunno

Don't they always tell you the fixes are easy?

If I had the experience and or knew people locally who did I would probably do it.

Best of luck!

Also, don't believe the fuse story. In my experience that usually means that either they know what is wrong but don't want to tell the buyer for one reason or another, or they have no idea what is wrong and just assume it must be a fuse.

If it were really a fuse, and they really wanted to get top dollar for the machine, don't you think it would be worth a trip to Napa or Radio Shack?

$450 for both of those machines is not top dollar.

If I had the room and the cheddar, they'd be in my house right now. Ive always wanted a galaga, and my mom's always wanted a Ms.Pac

If I didn't live so far away, I'd already be there picking these up.

Two cabs for $450?  Shoot, you should get 'em, part them out, Mame those ugly cabinets, paint over that crappy artwork, put some black marble shelf paper over the control panel, then turn around and sell them for $850 each.  Add in what you sold the parts for and you're set.

I kid, I kid.  Don't mame them!  But it's funny to see people freak about it!   >:D

That's my point. They are listing them for $450 most likely because there is more than a blown fuse. If they wanted to get more money for the Ms. Pac-Man they could have gone to Radio Shack for a 99 cent fuse, installed it, and listed it as "works great!".

But they didn't.

$225 a piece for those two particular games in decent condition, even not working, is a good deal.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

Even if you just slap 48-in-1 boards in both and install new monitors if needed, you could sell one and keep the other.

225 for one of these is about average price I'd say.  I have seen being given away, and I have seen them sell for $1000.

The monitors in these are swappable with no modifications right?

Sounds like you will be able to get at least one 100% working.   By mixing parts from one to the other you should be able to come out with a very nice cab.

Like others have said, "I think it's a fuse" is the oldest one in the book.

What's a "tune up"?  I've never heard that term in relation to an arcade machine.  ???  Rotate the microswitches?  Change the spark plugs in the CRT?

Clean all the leaf switches (shouldn't be any microswitches on these ;D ), check all the connectors, go over the boards to see if there's any bad solder joints,  cap kit on the monitor, if needed, maybe a new or rebuilt power supply...that's a good tune up for a game :) I'm sure I've even missed some stuff.

I think they are worth it if they work. However they are very common machines and if your looking to build up a collection of 20+ games I would focus on more obscure titles, and keep the galaga, pacman, centipede stuff for last..  If you just plan on having 3-5 machines then I'd say snatch them up now.
