Trackball Acting Wonky - Only Scrolls Horizontally
« on: April 19, 2009, 08:51:28 pm »
My MAME box has been out of commission for about a year or so, and thanks to some help, I'm finally getting things back together.

There's one major issue, however, and it's more than a small pain in the backside.

The Trackball appears to be not working correctly--it's scrolling on the horizontal only.  I feel like I've had this problem before, but can't track down the resolve.  I'm using the Happ Trackball (USB).

Are there any suggestions for this?

this happened to my wico trackball...it worked fine a year ago, when i went to use it a few months ago, only one axis was working.  as it turns out, something was wrong with one of the optical PCBs.  if you open it up and swap them, and the other axis quits working, then that is your problem.

55-0301-00
TRACKBALL USB & PS/2 MAIN PCB (A) PCB

That is the part number for the larger PCB for FORWARD/BACKWARD motion.

The side to side motion board is smaller and I think is part number 55-0302-00...

From another thread regarding the Happ USB Trackball.   The boards are not interchangeable like the optic boards in regular
trackballs.   Seems that the larger PCB is a common point of failure.

Thanks for the info--I received the replacement PCBs today.

Here's the rub: no real info on the best way to pull them, and it's been a few years since I built this bad boy.  I assume that I need to remove the trackball from the CP and then it's pretty easy, but before I go getting all crazy and leaving parts everywhere, I thought I'd ask if there's an easier way.

So, is there an easier way?

Thanks!

If you can access your trackball you should be able to unplug the PCBs and plug in you new ones.

I had to remove the trackball--and sadly enough, both PCBs, but now it's back to working!

Thanks for all the pointers!
