game list name
« on: April 18, 2009, 08:12:21 pm »
Setting up my game lists and can not come up with a name for my last category.
Here is what I have now:
Classic Games - Berzerk, DK, Pacman, etc
Fighting Games - These are my Verses like SF, MK, Killer Instinct, etc
Flying Games - 1942, Ajex, R-Type, etc
Puzzle / Mini Games - Puzzle Bobble, Solomon's Key, Tetris, Arknoid, etc
Sports Games - Cool Pool, Golden Tee, Track & Field, etc

All I have left are the Fighter / 2.5D, Platform / Fighter Scrolling, Shooter / Walking style games like TMNT, Double Dragon, Commando, Kung-Fu Master, etc.  Not sure what a good name for these would be.  What are some of the game list names you guys use.  Also do you put games in multiple lists if they fit or just stick to the one that they best fit in?

I'd call the "walking style games" for beat-em-ups or sidescrolling fighters. :)

Interesting, maybe I'll do Shooter Games for Commando, Contra, Metal Slug, etc and Beat-Um-Up Games for Double Dragon, TMNT, Kung-FU Master, etc.  Though there are games that involve some parts with a gun/weapon and others without like Robocop.  Probably putting way to much thought into this.  Ugh.

i went through mine a long time ago and made a ton of different game lists..but as it turns out, i never, ever used them.  I have a favorites list that has about 100 games, and my all games list, and those are the only two that i use.  I thought it would be easier for visitors to find a specific game if they were divided up like that, however  I've found that no matter what i do to make things simple for other people...they just don't get it.  Nobody switches game list, nobody even knew if they should use the 4 way or the 8way stick.

then i went with u360s, to eliminate the stick problem, and only have two gamelists....all of the games i actually like to play are on the favorites list..and if someone has a request, i go to the full list and copy it over.  Right now, i have two novagem light up buttons on my panel, both have little inserts, one say's Exit, and one says Pause.   they are the only two buttons that light up, so they stand out.  however i still have people ask me how to pause, or how to exit from the game.

my point is, make it the way you want it and don't try to cater to other people...because no matter how hard you try, you cannot idiot proof it.  sometimes simpler is better

I get what you are saying and I am really doing this for me.  I like the idea of grouping games so if I don't have to scroll through a ton of games to find what i am looking for.  I like the idea of a favorites list but I don't want to lose sight of the other games.

I think that I am just over thinking this part.  Thanks for the advice.

Some people like to call them "Move Right To Fight" games.
