Led Wiz Version 2...banks?
« on: April 18, 2009, 06:43:41 pm »
Hey everyone, finally got my cp put together (i'll have pictures soon), getting ready to wire everything, and going to wire my led lights first.  I have a led wiz v2 with the bank selector..1-8, 9-16 ect.  I'm going to have 20 single leds and one rgb led for the trackball (so usb power should be fine since i'm right at 460 ma), can i just run the power right from the usb 5v output to the terminal block and ignore the terminal banks all together, or do i need to do something with them?  Thanks in advance!

Also is it dangerous not to insulate the led and resistor? I looked around and could only find 3/16 heat shrink, which i think it to big.  I could also use electrical tape i guess, but it looks kinda tough to be able to wrap that around a led wire and resistor?  Leds are confusing......

Hi Tyson,

AFAIK you don't need to do anything with the banks if you are just using 5v.

I linked all of the banks together and connected them to the usb 5v output before asking RandyT if this was correct or not. He told me it was not necessary but that it would not hurt either.

As far as insulating the led and resistor you don't have to bother if you don't want to, just make sure that the legs etc don't touch. I like to insulate the joints though to keep everything nice and neat, insulated and strong.
