Illuminated Keyboard
« on: April 18, 2009, 04:42:01 pm »

Anyone recommendations?

Been reading about a number of brands out there and am not sure which one to go with.

I would like...
Regular width keyboard (~18" or so wide)
  Illumination settings adjustable (if possible)
USB ports on the back or side of the keyboard
Tilt up legs would also be nice
  Corded is fine

I've rarely been happy with illuminated keyboards for a variety of reasons.

Logitech's Illuminated Keyboard looks very good. I don't like it because it's nothing like my NewTouch (similar to their Wave). Based on the description, it has everything you're looking for.

Others, that might not quite fit into your needs include:

Think Geek has a number of illuminated keyboards starting with that insane piece of crap hype machine from the eighth circle of Hell, the Optimus Maximus Keyboard selling for a cool $1,600, to the dying Bluetooth Laser Virtual Keyboard or a mismatched Luxeed Dynamic Pixel LED Keyboard.

There's the Glowtype by GrandTech. Interestingly, Think Geek sells a similar one but it doesn't illuminated? Hhmm.... oh well.

I have a Logitech G15, and while it looks cool I don't really like the feel of the keys. Hard to describe, but they just have a very dead, not "clicky" feel. I have the blue one, I think the new one is orange which doesn't really appeal to me.

I'm thinking about replacing it with a Saitek Eclipse II or III. They have a dimmer and you can choose the illumination color.

I LOVE my saitek Eclipse II. 3 colors, red, blue, purple, and theres a dimmer knob. mine lacks extra USB ports (that I'd never use)

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I have the Microsoft Reclusa and I love it. It has everything you want except the backlight level adjustment.

Thanks guys. I decided to buy the Saitek Eclipse II -- looks like it has most of the features I am looking for.

I wish Logitech or Microsoft would make an illuminated keyboard with an ergonomic layout (split angled keys) - but no such thing exists for any manufacturer :(

There is also Deck (http://www.deckkeyboards.com/) keyboards.  Kind of spendy ~$150.  Keys are lit by individual LEDs.  Blue and Green are supposedly blindingly bright, Red is not so much.  They use mechanical switches, but they are not tactile, they are linear.

I have a deck and I love it.  The best part of it is that it'd small and seeing as how most arcade drawers have limited space, it's a bonus.  Sports 7 different light intensities, diamond plate metal bottom AND a skull key  ;D
