How well does a pentium 3 1.8 ghz fair with mame 32 v.103? It'll have to play neo geo games and cps2 only. no 3d, no mk, maybe no KI either. So far it runs visual boy advance, snes9xw,and gens well.

I was running a p3 1.0 ghz.512 pc133 memory on that version.almost ran everything on the list there was a handful of fighting games were it was choppy, upgraded to radeon 64 video card with newest driver paid 8 bucks.worked great still choppy when playing the newer fighting games.I only play the classics so good enough for me.only reason i upgraded is to run hyperspin.p4 3.4ghz 2g memory plays everything flawlessly and hyperspin. :blah:

What fighters in particular? 3d? 2D?

I think 1.8 is a Pent 4 unless you overclocked. I can run lots of stuff on a 1.6 using Mame .129. I heard some of the 3D games run better on newer Mames but I'm no expert on that. Could be wrong. I can run NBA Jam, Tekken, MK3, etc without any noticeable delay. It's best to run command line mame out of a front end for the best performance.

1.8 GHz is fine to play all CPS2 and Neo games and anything that came before them.  You don't need to use the newest version of MAME either.  The emulation for those systems has been pretty much perfect for a few years now.

I was running CPS2 and NeoGeo on much crappier hardware using "dedicated" emus instead of MAME. I believe FinalBurnAlpha was what I was using on like a 1.2 with 256 or 512 of RAM but that was forever ago.

Yeah. P3's rarely went over the 1Ghz mark - it must be a P4. On that spec (1.8Ghz) I run MAME 0.105 (still a pre-core change build) sweet with just a bit of lag on the KI+chd games, 3d fighters were still emulated poorly but PS1 emulators will run mint at that spec to fill all your fighting needs. N64 runs brilliant at that spec, as does Laserdisc, Mega CD, Jaguar and others.
