Some MAME config help? (Please?)
« on: July 01, 2003, 04:33:27 pm »
Okay, here goes:

I have a completed cab w/ a 21" (maybe 23"?) Viewsonic monitor. What settings in MAME.ini should I set for:

A) Scanlines (if possible, not very important)
B) Streching to fit my ENTIRE screen (IMPORTANT)

Some games are off-centered and stuff, but Windows is perfect so it must be one/some of my settings. How can I make them take up the full screen? What is going on?

I know this could go in Monitor (even though it is really just video); or software, but I NEED an answer... this has really been getting on my nerves!

I just got a Viewsonic G815 21" Monitor. Maybe it's similar to yours. I downloaded Display Doctor, http://www.scitechsoft.com/products/enterprise/free_titles.htmlit's free now, and used that to set the resolution, refresh rate and sizes. I found that -800x600 works good for MAME, but I'm still experimenting.
Hope that helps.

on the command line add:    -scanlines

Off center, with an inch or so of black bars? Combination of using different resolutions and refresh rates, than what your monitor was configure for with windows. Change the settings on the front of the monitor.
Mucal invader, is there no end to your oozing?!

You could force mame to output to 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 in Mame.ini

That might work.  :)

Do you have hardware streching ON?

If the black bars are uneven the monitor has probably not been centered for that resolution.   Most monitors store different setups for different screen res. so when the game is on screen try using your monitor controls to center it.  Once centered HW stretch should give you full screen.

Like Meta87 said, I use 800x600 on my home computer.

One thing to watch for - make sure the display is sized properly (up and down and side to side buttons on monitor) in WINDOWS for the display and refresh rate that you are using.  I typically run 1024x768@75 in Windows and 800x600@85 in MAME, but I use multires from www.entechtaiwan.com (freeware) to set the refresh rate.  One time it got out of spec (67Hz or something) and MAME was not full screen.

Important settings -

 window     0
hwstretch   1
resolution   800x600 (or some settings that you have sized properly in Windows)
maximize    1
keepaspect 1 (or will stretch both ways to full screen)

Everything else leave at defaults.

Okay, forcing my res to the properly configured one and hardware stretch did it! Now I can't have scanlines b/c of the hwstretch. Any other ideas?

THANKS SO MUCH!

use the new fancy direct3d effect scan25 or whatever and cleanstretch etc...

check otu the whats new in the last few mames to get syntax/examples...  those d3d effects will work ON top of cleanstretch without a prob...  it's what i'm doing now, and so are all the cool kids.
