Jukebox software help -finding the right one
« on: April 16, 2009, 03:25:19 am »
Hi I want to make a jukebox to use at private parties and social gatherings (old and young people).

And I have found the software list in this forum, and I am currently trying all the programs out. But it takes a lot of time, and some of the programs take a long time to figure out. So I thought that it might be quicker to ask.  :D

I have some requirements for the software I want to use:
1. User friendly (big buttons, simple interface)
2. Touch screen friendly (virtual keyboard for search)
3. Kiosk / Bar mode (locking the software so users can't mess the computer up)
4. Limit the queue (no more than X songs can be queued at a time)
5. Album view with cover art
6. Genre view/filter/?
7. Search song, album, artist option (preferably on the fly)
8. Remove (or disable): play, pause, next, previous, volume controls
9. Disable queue controls (so users can not mess with the queue)
10. No play now or queue to front select track options
11. Limit repeat song within a certain time (the same song can not be chosen more than once within x minutes)
12. Avoid double tracks waiting in queue
13. Random mode when queue is empty

So far I have found that Silverjuke can do all this, but there is no skin that supports all the requirements. The skin “Eagle Touch” is the closest, but there is no genre buttons or search. The skin “Platinium” has genre buttons (filter), but I can remove all the other buttons like play controlls, and it is not very user touch friendly. The skin “Silveriness Touched” can do it all but in order to get genres you have to click a very small arrow icon in the search field, not very user friendly. Plus texts are very small in the playlist.

eJukebox at http://www.audiosoft.net also has most of the preferences but is a bit messy.

So is there any of you that know a jukebox program that can do all of this or most, I would greatly appreciate it?

Thanks
   Chrsiten  :)

My own MultiFE have all features except feature number 11 and 12 (MultFE was named MultiJuke some times ago). I do might add these features sooner or later.

Feature 4 can been limited to few songs or even one song (no queue).

Feature 8 &  9 can been password protected and/or removed from screen.

Feature 13 is just called radio mode in MultiFE.

You might trying Uncle'T Jukebox with party mode on.

E-Touch has what your looking for!  :applaud: :applaud:

I use it daily and my 3 year old has yet to mess it up!  :applaud:

You can make it so that nothing other than the selection screen is accessable or make the whole think open to all, it's up to you!

Each program out there has some configuring with it. Not one that I have tried or used wasnt an 'out of the box' instant use. You have to tell all of them where the music, video or karaoke is stored. If your looking for a 'One-Button-Push or one-click' and instant configuration, then you wont find one.

With E-Touch, you can be up and running in less than 10 minutes! ;D

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=90390.0 The demo is full function but has a 30 minute time limit. Just retart the program to use it more. I dont think you want the demo for your party or function. The time limit will kick in right in the middle of a song!

Click the link above for a demo! It's just $25.00 (US) for the program. Unlocking the time limit is worth the $25.00 alone!

Cheap considering what you want it to do and what you are going to use it for!

Hope this helps!

I have not checked all software my self, but my favorits competer is still SK-Jukebox, I do sure a pay software like E-Touch is great (its a really great choices software title, since I really never liked the Freebox as title, since it turned into shareware).

Howover I gonna to add the 2 missing features is my software in this weekend (one is now ready). Since MultiFE doesn't sound like a jukebox software is because it have recently turned into a game frontend with full Jukebox features. There was some weird bugs in the configurations, but I hope I got these fixed.

But as allways it good to test all software to find that one need your requirement, regaardless the final one you gonna to use AND finally welcome onboard :-)

NB. Not sure what you mean at feature 10? The queue can been shown to the user, but cant move or change any songs in the queue other than skip the current it (if you dosent have protected that feature).

My software does not do 3, 11 or 12 although 11 and 12 seem possible to add.

My software was designed to play audio and videos and works great with a touchscreen.
You do not need a touchscreen with dual monitors but this is what I use.   The primary monitor allows the user to select the songs, etc..  and the secondary monitor is used to watch the videos, see lyrics, album cover, etc...  If you do not have a secondary monitor then all of the same displays can be seen in the primary monitor as well.

Is feature 3 is not that its called Party Mode in your software? All you really need to remove the possible to configuration and quit.

Your correct, my software does support #3 ...... I read it fast and thought #3 was related to Karaoke.

Anyway, you are correct, #3 is what my software calls party mode.  Thanks Fractal.

Thanks for all of the answers, I have not had time to check the software out as of yet, but I am looking forward to it. I am getting my touch screen tomorrow, and hopefully I will have time to check out some of the software on it.   :D

To Space Fractal:
No 10, Some of the software I have tried out allows users to add a track to the front of the queue or to set a queued song to the front of the queue. I dont want this.

To Fordman:
I dont mind configuring, but sometimes it is har to figure out what or how to configure the software to do what I want. And I might miss some of the options when I am browsing through the software. So I thought it was better to ask.  ;)
And I dont mind paying for the software if it solves my problems in a neat way.

good luck for hunting your software, regardless which one you use.

"NextPlay" in feature 10 is enabled by default in my software, but that feature can been disabled under config/songlist. I have no PlayNow feature in MultiFE at all, because I never liked that type of feature which can skip a allready "paid" song (if credit feature used).

E-Touch is property the most popular here for time and all named software is all good...

Play Now and Play next are in my software but you can turn both of them off. I find it's better to have the option to have these for the users that want to use these features and those who don't can just turn them off. It's a simple check box to hide those buttons.

I have tried them out now. Looks like e-touch is what I am looking for. (the other software looks good as well, but I like e-touch.)

I have a question. How do you get the full version. As far as I have figured out I need to create a profile on freejukebox.com make a donation and write it in the forum, and I will get access to a full download? I have not found any information about how it works.

Yes that's pretty much how it works and you will then have access to hidden section of the forum where all the New releases are posted.
