Midway MK2 Cab > Retro UMK3 Mame Cabinet
« on: April 15, 2009, 11:21:53 am »
Here is my story. About 2 mo. ago, I went to my first arcade auction. I've always loved Pinballs and more importantly Arcades. The list included 3 cabinets with MK2 in them. The first one went for over $500 and was an original MK2 cab in great shape. The others were converted to MK2 and were in almost as good a shape but the 3rd was worse. I ended up winning the 2nd cab for $425 on somewhat of a whim.

My wife did not appreciate. I ended up turning around and selling it 20 minutes later to another couple that lost out on the all 3 of the other cabs. I ended up eating the buyers premium. No big deal. At that same auction my buddy bought a Pin.

I spent time over at his place playing the pin and decided I want a pin before I got my arcade. So another auction was coming up and it had 3 Jurassic Parks Pinballs. I bid on one or two arcades with teaser bids as well as the JP's That same day I had to go to my step-dad's birthday so I could stick around watch the entire auction. So there was one last Arcade that was going to come up after I would have left myhouse. It was the only Soul Calibur 3 and I put in a proxy bid of $300 and left. When I returned home I found no information that I had won anything.

So Sunday rolled around and I found a Pin on ebay that I had to have. It was a Bride of Pinbot and I bought it. I was going to pick it up Monday so I called my CC company to make sure everything was clear and guess what???!!??!?! Yep, I won that auction for the arcade cabinet! OH ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---! It was one or the other not both!

So, last weekend I went and picked up my arcade and it turns out it is an original MK2 cab the kicker is... THEY PAINTED OVER THE ORIGINAL MK2 ART!! ALL OF IT!!!! ARGGHH!!!!!  :banghead: This stuff was all Capcon's stuff they put on location in Wal-marts and/or leased out to Coin-ops.

I spent Saturday cleaning all the nasty sh*t out of it, spilled pop, money, dust, movie tickets... etc.... Last night, I finally pulled the JAMMA harness (it was hacked just a little bit and I want it to be a cleaner install) and the system 246. They are both now on ebay. I pulled the CP off so I can make a new one.

Goals

P4 3.2 Ghz system mounted in Cab
Ultimarc's VGA w/ accessories for Arcade Monitor connection
Mounted Power Strip
It already has a flip switch on top but it only controls the inverse power supply so I need to mount a switch on top for the main power and a PC power button.
AC-DC converter
Amp w/ sub and speakers.
USB connections on the front by the CP for connection of USB keys and iPod.
MK3 Side Art with Midway on the side of the CP as well as Mortal Kombat below the CP on the front.
Slide out drawer for keyboard and mouse.

I will provide pictures of its current state later tonight.
