Trackball Issue
« on: April 14, 2009, 11:06:52 pm »
Hello-
I have a Happ USB/PS2 trackball and the left/right stoped working all of a sudden. It worked fine for over a year. Now the up/down works correctly but the left/right does nothing. I tried cleaning the optic board for the left/right but it didn't help. Do I need to get a replacement board or is there something simple I am overlooking?

It could be that your encoder wheel is out of alignment with the receiver, or it could be a faulty board.

Try manually moving the encoder wheel through the receiver to see if the cursor moves. Otherwise, try swapping the left/right board with the up/down board and see if the symptom follows the board (ie left/right would start working and up/down would stop)

Thanks for the reply. I did verify that the wheel is aligned with the sensor. I even tried to manually trip the sensor but I didn't get any response. The two boards are different sizes and I don't think I can swap them. I don't think it would help anyway because I can see that the wheel is going through the sensor. It must be a bad board. Does anyone know if/where I can get the board? The Happ website lists an upgrade for non USB trackballs that includes both boards and all of the wiring. I would like to just get the board if possible.
