EMS Topgun II or RF Topgun on a large screen...any input?
« on: April 13, 2009, 11:20:31 pm »
hey guys, i recently started looking into the topgun units and was pleasantly suprised that they were much less expensive than i had originally thought.  i would like guns in my cabinet, which uses a 19" LCD monitor....but what would be really awesome is to have guns that would work on my PS2 that is connected to my DLP Projector and played on a 102" 16:9 screen.  i have emailed the topgun support people asking a few questions, but they said that on a screen that big, i'd have to mount the led bars on the surface of the screen, in the middle of the image...which pretty much sucks.  i see that they have a upgraded set of led bars called the Blaze Stand II, which is supposed to be for large screens, up to 120"...i sent another email to try to clarify if these would eliminate the need for mounting them in the middle of the screen.

i figured that i could put them on the top and bottom of the screen, and as long as i stand 2 to 3 times the height of the screen away, it should work fine. (according to their documentation).  that is why i figured i'd go with the RF guns, because the cord wouldn't be long enough on the other ones.

have any of you guys used these guns on a screen this large?  if so, did they work well?  did you do it without mounting the led bars in the middle of the screen?

i got a reply back from the ems support..

"No, it doesn't work. For a 120inch screen, you must mount the LED stands inside the screen. The screen is too large such that mounting the LED stands above and below doesn't work."

so i guess this is out of the question.  i don't think i want to buy them if i can only use them on my mame cabinet...at least not right now.  i think i'll wait to see what Andy at Ultimarc comes up with before i make any mame gun decisions.  i was just hoping that these would work and i could just use them to play time crisis and vampire night on my ps2...but i guess i'm out of luck....

that is unless one of you have actually got a set up like this to work?

if you have a semi transaprent screen you can try to put them behind it.
