X-Arcade and escape quitting
« on: April 07, 2009, 10:54:58 pm »
The default X-Arcade keystrokes don't include "esc" but it does have a two-button combo for quitting Mame that I think is written into the ctrclr (or whatever) file. However, I can't get other emus to quit because I don't have an esc key. I can reprogram X-Arcade but then I have to hit a button a couple of times on power up and I like that the cab is good to go all the time for people who come over and play. Is there anything I can use to make a combo esc like Mame has with the X-Arcade? Is JoytoKey my answer or another program? Thanks.

you should be able to program your x-arcade and have it keep that setting.  there is a switch on the back that has 4 positions...if you put it on anythign other than the first position and reprogram it, you should be good to go.

I recently bought it and it automatically boots to the default regardless of the switch. Also, I have the BYOAC parts, so I don't actually have the button I need to get the other channels to work. I have to swap another switch. I will eventually get a button for it but I still would like to solve the problem using the default settings if at all possible.

i think it would really depend on the emulators in question.  some allow you to change which button exits, some dont.  perhaps you need to find a different emulator that is a little more cabinet friendly.  as for which ones, i dont know...i don't do anything buy mame on my cabinet, if i want console emulation, i do it on my modded xbox

Yea, that's been my fix so far. Mame games play the best on the controls anyway and there are so many good games. But I made the cab for my nephews and one of them is asking about NES, SNES and other systems. My computer friend said the emus are pretty easy to hack and change the exit button, but it would be easier to find one that let you change it in the GUI. Never used JoyToKey. I'll have to see if that solves it, too.

Have you tried using Auto Hot Key?  I used it to write a single key remapping script that, depending on which emulator is currently running, it remaps the button on my cp that I use to exit the program.  This way I am able to use the same button in all my emulators and it is easy to update when I add another.
