help me make my own golden tee machine
« on: April 02, 2009, 08:31:57 am »
I would like to get a list of components for a golden tee machine.  I'll make my own cabinet and I'm looking to hook it up to my big screen tv.  Thanks for the help everyone

Welcome!  Before diving into a new project you should really read the wiki.  Then read the forums.  Then use the search function for some basic questions you still might have.  Then read the wiki again.  Then ask a specific question if you are still lost.

Your post is really really ambiguous - you may or may not need some MDF or plywood, glue, buttons, a trackball, a GT board or computer, a coin door, a marquee, some side art, a CPO, some t-molding, lots of tools and lots of other stuff that I know I'm leaving out.... but then again, so does just about every single project.

well from what i have gathered, I need a pcb, a ball and buttons, a hard drive and a power supply.  I know theres more but I'm a little stumped on how it all goes together.  The wood working and decals and what not are no problem at all for me.

Welcome!

What you will need will depend on what you want to play as there are over a dozen variants of Golden Tee.

I'm not familiar with the more recent variants (I've only owned up to 2K), but the boards that I have had were all JAMMA and used standard resolution (CGA) arcade monitors.

The earliest versions that I had connected the trackball directly to the JAMMA harness (which is against JAMMA standard, but is what they did) and I don't seem to have the pinouts lying around.

The GT97 and GT2K boards that I currently have both use a seperate harness to connect the trackball to the game board. The harnesses are readily available from a variety of Vendors, including Happ (but buy from one of their distributors, like divemaster127).

If you want to connect the standard resolution game to a TV, you will need an RGB convertor, like these from jrok. There is also a cheaper unit that is available from yaton.

I'll leave it to other to speak of the more recent versions of Golden Tee as I am not familiar with them.

Whatever version you choose, be sure to get a copy of the manual (links to online sources can be found in the Restoration portion of the wiki.

As an example, here is the manual for GT Fore:

And here are some links to projects that folks have worked on here:

EDIT: I should have included a link to KLOV, so you could see the various versions of GT:

Since you mentioned it, I do have some Golden Tee JAMMA PCBs for sale (2k and 3D).  I also have a trackball in good, clean condition if you want it.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

damn - 500 bones is quite reasonable considering what you get and the amount of time you save.
