Emulators without GUI
« on: April 02, 2009, 05:44:37 am »
I am currently setting up the computer for my first MAME cabinet, and I decided to go with MaLa for my frontend. My control panel will only have joysticks and buttons, no trackball, and no spinner, so I would like to use emulators that either don't have a GUI in the first place, or have a -nogui type option.

Currently, I am using MAME and ZSNES (with the -m option).

I am really only worried about emulating the following systems: NES, Genesis, Master System, Game Boy, TurboGraphx, and Lynx.

I have tried various emulators, but still can't figure out how to get these to work without a GUI.

http://www.multife.com/index.php?page=help&faq=emulator.setup is the emulators I choice when I created some profiles for my frontend and which emulators I used.

MALA, MultiFE and many other FE's do use a hook to quit these emulator, even ESCAPE in the officiel emulator is designed example to show the GUI. When a frontend detect the ESCAPE key, it simple send the correct quit key the emulator use or simple close or kill it.

If you want to use some hacked emulator to fit better arcade cabinet with mame defaults and such, checkout this page (some emulators might been older than the officiel release):

Thank you so much. I now have working emulators for pretty much everything desired except TurboGrafx. For some reason, I have tried to install Hu GO! a few times, and each time it says that there is a *.dll file missing.

Hope you got it to work (I noticed you PM me and not the other user). I personal do not use any hacked emulators, due my frontend can quit them, even its have a GUI or not (most other can do that too).

For the TurboGrafx go for the MagicEngine, even it shareware you wont been disappoint for the money for that emulator.
