newbie question about a slikstik
« on: April 01, 2009, 06:16:36 pm »
So, I just received my slikstick spinner from Happ yesterday. I plug it into my usb port on my computer and XP immediately recognizes it as a usb human interface device. It will even act as a vertical or horizontal mouse depending on how I have the dipswitch on the control board of the spinner set. Everything is going great, right?? Wrong. I fire up mame32fx ver .120 and for the life of me I don't know how to get mame to recognize my spinner. I've tried it on a few different mame versions and it doesn't treat the spinner as mouse or paddle device or any other devive that I try to change to in the default game options menu. I think i've tried all the different settings in mame but it's like mame doesn't see the spinner because it's not a mouse or a joystick or any other default controller. I hope I've made my problem reasonably clear and hopefully some smart person on this forum will know how to fix it. I should add that I have tried checking the boxes for multilple mice input and multi keyboard.

Thanks in advance

I should now add that it works perfectly if I use the USB to ps2 adapter(now it is for sure a mouse) but I'd like it to work in a USB port.  Any ideas???

Any chance you have multiple USB mice connected to your machine (other spinners, trackballs, normal mice, etc.)?  Since the mouse works fine in Windows I'm guessing perhaps you need to go into the mame settings (in-game) and make sure the mouse settings are set to use the mouse you want to use (in this case, your spinner).  You can do this by highlighting the correct entry, hitting enter, and then spinning your spinner.

Good luck.

Since you are using a variant of Mame32 go to the options menu  Select Controllers make sure enable mouse input is ticked.  Under controllers mapping make sure trackball device is set to mouse.    Once you are in your game you can follow the directions given in fatfingers post if the spinner still does not respond.

Thank you BobA and fatfingers.  I did what both of you said.  I think that fatfingers was dead right that once I'm in a given game, i.e. tempest, and hit 'enter' on the paddle device and then spin my spinner (which is actually mouse 3) it works great.  Thanks again for the help.   ;D ;D
