What's the smallest Power Supply Mini-ITX,
« on: March 29, 2009, 01:44:23 pm »
Whats the smallest power supply I can have for a mini-itx Laptop DVD, and onboard Audio and Vid. Looking to save space so even moding a ps would be worth it, prefer not to.

Smallest PS is probably an external power brick with a plugin PS module that fits right into the power connector of the MB.  Lots of micro ITX use this type of setup.   The limiting factor however is how much power your need for your mini itx.   Usually depends on your CPU and video combination.  You can choose a low power MB and an efficient CPU and get in the 45 w range.

Care to share any details about what your project is?  Something small in size, low in power consumption?  Sounds interesting.

Super small,  using the 15inch monitor as the boundary, and 4 inch deep,  I know about the heat issues that could happen, just want ot push the envelope.  Also yes small power consumption and one TB of storage.

I'm strongly considering just buying an EEE Top and building an audio system/cabinet around it.  Low power consumption interests me, too, and I definitely want a touchscreen-based jukebox-style music system in the living room.

I wonder if  the EEE Top runs WinCab, SKJukebox, and/or Freebox (E-Touch), well, and wonder if the audio section is 'good enough' or if I could add a third party USB audio device to bring it up if it isn't.

Chunce DeLeone,

I am currently in the planning stages of my jukebox project and also am currently acquiring all my parts that I need. My 15 inch elo is on the way and I am considering a small T-amp and some 4x10 car speakers  (if they will fit). I was thinking of using one of these type power supply's as I am planning on making my jukebox only 4 inch deep as well. Also I don't want to hear a PSU fan running. I was planning on using a higher wattage one than you to power a mini ATX motherboard with an old Sempron I have laying around. Will these work for that? Also what transformer should I look for to run these PSU's I know it has to be 12V, but what amperage does it need to be.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Good to know that those get hot.... scorching hot???? The reason I am asking is because I am trying to design mine without a fan in it (I have to meet strict W.A.F requirements on this one) Based on what your saying, I think I am going to give a 12v unit a try. Thanks for the info!
