Smartstrip Problems?
« on: March 29, 2009, 12:28:50 am »
Hey guys,

I build my cab today and everything is great, except for the smart strip. For some reason, when the comp turns on, everything else turns on except for the tv. I have the power button held down and know that works so its nothing on the tv....but have any of you had similar issues? I've tried adjusting the sensitivity until i'm blue in the face, to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I also notice that sometimes it has trouble turning everything off with the computer....again, I've messed with the sensitivity so I don't know what else to do.

I'll be sure to post pics tomorrow!

Thanks,

John

What happens when you use the tv as the control device? If your tv's power button is held down will it turn on if it's plugged into the control port and plugging the strip into the wall or pressing the power strips on button.

I have the power button held down and know that works so its nothing on the tv....

So you have tested it like this:

First off, use a regular wall outlet for testing.....

While the tv is unplugged from the wall, press and HOLD the power button.
Now plug it into the wall. DO NOT let go of the button.
Does it come on?

DO NOT let go of the button.

While still holding the button the entire time, unplug it from the wall.
Obviously it should go off.
Now plug it back in.....
Does it come back on?

I also notice that sometimes it has trouble turning everything off with the computer....again, I've messed with the sensitivity so I don't know what else to do.

To me that sounds like a sensitivity issue still. Like something may be pulling just enough on the power supply to keep it triggered. (maybe a USB device or something?)

Thanks for the ideas guys. For some reason, everything works as long as I give each step ample time. For example, last night before I went to bed, I turned everything on. (The arcade has been off for an hour or so) Everything came on perfectly. I played for about 10 min, then turned everything off, again it worked great. Tried again this morning, everything works like a champ. So....yeah. I think Iwas just trying to do things too fast (on then off as soon as the comp was booted up)

Thanks!

I find that my aux items (marquee, lcd, speakers) take a few minutes to turn off after the computer goes night night.  It bugged me at first - trying to adjust the SmartStrip - but once I figured it out, I was very happy with it.  I'd still rather it all went off at once, but my cab isn't exactly pro spec anyway  ;)
