Have gone through the vids that I'd produced earlier and proud to say there's 87 vids done so far, 33 of them are updates to the previous release (mainly due to missing sound in the demo).  Over the weekend I got my HTPC to run through some of the new roms still using the mng2avi process.  Another 100 or so vids were done through the batch process but quite a few of the vids didn't work due to the game in mame not working.  So unfortunately some time was wasted on those.  I need to audit those that worked and edit them down.

Am currently testing the -aviwrite option to see if I can just move away from the mng2avi process.   I'll need to generate some vdub batch files to do all the resizing and compressing of the avi as mame outputs raw avi's which are huge.

I have tried various options in mame.ini as well as in the command line and each time the avi file produced is always based on the pixel aspect rather than the standard aspect.  So even though the game runs nice when -keepaspect is on, the output is still based on the native resolution which will either be stretched horizontally or vertically depending on the game.

Even tried to set the resolutions to -resolution 512x328 in the command and while the game shows nice on screen, the video output is still 512x224.  I might have to keep the aspect ones to the side and adjust the virtualdub scripts to get the aspect ratio back

I'm slowly progressing through the list of games, testing them to see if they actually work, if there's any attract mode showing game play and if there's sound.

So far out of the 4611 total listed games,
2907 vids were produced in 0106 set
33 vids have been updated from that set
54 new vids already produced
Have gone through all the games from # to C and there's 70 games not working, 40 games which have a decent attract sequence and 30 games which have no attract sequence so will need to manually record some gameplay
Still have 1200 games to test and then 273 games with CHD which will be tested last

Thanks saint.  Good to know mate.

Didn't get anything done over the weekend apart from having some drinks and spending time with family - so nothing to report.  Do hope to go through about 50 games today - helps pass the time while at work.

Where would we find your updated mng's?  bitbytebit has created groovymame that is fabulous.  So I'm using his gentoo live cd and it has advmenu as a front end.  I would absolutely freaking love it if I can get vids for advmenu!

First of all, Thanks! I prefer this set to the EmuMovies set simply because I'm a nerd who enjoys seeing the actual attract footage (where possible).

Second - is anyone aware of a good way to automate the process of renaming the videos in the original 0.106 set to comply with Mame 0.143? If there are no tools to assist in the task, I'll simply wait for the update set.

What has happened with the naming?

Project is on the back burner again as things are too busy at home and I'm stuck in a clients office so don't have the time....

I'm not exactly sure, but I've seen video packs distributed elsewhere that said they were updated to match new MAME rom naming conventions.

I looked at 0.143 and I don't see any change in the way MAME games are named.
Old, but not obsolete.

Right, I don't believe there were any changes between .142 and .143, but my understanding was that naming conventions changed at some point between .106 and .143.

Again, I could be wrong. My only source for this is a video pack distributed on another site. To directly quote the uploader:

Quote
This is the complete HQ AVI videos for Mame matched to Mame 0.139.
I had mismatched video names due to Mame rom names changing and redid my video folder.
Enjoy,

During various updates the mamedevs sometimes rename the rom names to something more appropriate.  Happens when they find out a rom they thought was a parent but is actually a clone so they do a rename.  For those ones I generally redo a vid as it's a "new" game".  for a second I was worried they naming convention had changed and all the vids were useless.
