they work just fine, do some searching.  I've had both official namco guncons and generic ones working perfect in mame...  all the info you need is posted, just search.

If you have this info then please post links to it...  I have 4 Guncon's and Guncon 2's that I've been playing with for the past couple years.  I've NEVER been able to get them to function "fine" or even playable on my MAME cabinet.  So, if you have this info that you request that we search for please post it... I've been looking and searching for a long while for this info.

Using Wingun driver.  Smogs driver worked with the generic guns but not with Offical namco guns.  I've tested the above configuration with both Namco guns and Yobo Generic guncon guns.

I'm running s-video the TV, and then the guns are hooked up to the composite output on the TV, i have  Toshiba 27a60 TV.

Hmm I'm using Namco ones with an AVGA card and an actual TRISYNC monitor.  I don't think that setup will work for me...

Ok for some reason my gun doesn't want to work in mame now..I dont know if I messed up a default control setting or what but when I go to change the player 1 button and click the trigger as the input it always changes to X or Y then i hafta shake my gun to shoot...How do I fix this? Oh and when its assigned to mouse button 1 it will shoot fine when I lcik the mouse button on my x arcade but when I click the gun the screen flashes and nothing happens...

make sure you fire off screen a few times before you set the trigger button...

think about it for a bit and you'll understand why you are getting the result you are on button mapping...

Ok so I overall got the guns working in a playable state but the two main issues I have is when a game is full auto how do I map things so when I hold the trigger it goes full auto? Also some games need a button to reload a gun instead of shooting off screen so how do I map a button to do that? Also some games like lethal enforcers says shoot off screen to reload but it wont work...Also is 2 player with guncons hard to set up? Thanks

I had it working in November or October 2007 or so.  I forget what I used, I was messing with WinGun and a couple other drivers, I was using a third party gun.  But it certianly worked with my laptop linked to a 36" CRT TV and running Area 51.

However ultimatly I decided to just start collecting as many PlayStation console ports of light gun games instead.  Shame the Area 51 PSX port doesn't feature free play or support saving of scores to the memory card. :/

He talks about an area51 port to ps1 so I'm guessing an emulator. I'm serioulsy considering running PSXe and a PS2 emulator and abandoning mame for gun games. However I'll wait until I have a fully functioning monitor and will compare. I've heard that gun games run ok on ps1/2 emus and frankly mame sucks in this area.

I also get teed off that mame programmers do not consider performance issues introduced with new versions are bugs. le2 ran fine in 129 but staggers on a brand new machine in 130

I'm going to try this myself this weekend. Good to know that I can get by with the non-official ones.

Its looking like pcxs2 needs more CPU/memory than I can throw at it. I'm using a P4 2.6 with 1 gig ram. Opinions?

zaktallica- the ps1 emulator epsxe only supports 1 gun so that has ruled it out for me :'(.  PCXS2 needs a lot of CPU so i think that has been ruled out alos. However I am yet to test

Looks like guns are still a no go unless you have a TV. The only person who has been successful is Chrisnack and that was with a TV.

I'll try mame again next week when my monitor is 100%

Just a general question, I have Component out to my TV cab, will these guns not work this way?  If this is true are you guys using them Via Svideo, and doesn't that suck compared with Component?

the guns want composite so you'd have to adapt component out. Probably have to make something

actually to be honest I went out of my way to get a flat screen crt with component and when I put it in my cab to test, the cables were short so I used s-video instead as a backup. They difference was nill to none so I just stuck with the s-video...And if you have the gun plugged into a video out and I would think it wouldn't matter if it component or not..But im not sure..
