Unless your speaker is amplified you won't get much of a signal out of your shuttle earphone jack.

As BobA says - you'd need an amplifier to power that speaker - or you could use PC speakers with their own Mains power source (though, I'm sure you're aware of that already!) - the only speakers that the ipod could power itself, that I'm aware of, are those crappy headphone speakers that cost about £3.99 and sound AWFUL.

It's not the power that's the issue - the signal needs to be amplified else the speaker will sound very very quiet. It's even worse than using USB-powered speakers on your PC if you want to run off your ipod. You will only get so much power through the headphone jack and will need more juice to power an amplifier. Even thos speaker docks that run on batteries for the ipod are mildly amplified.

What's the goal BTW? These speakers look really really crap! Go to a flee-market and get the cheapest PC speakers you can get (<1$) and it will sound better than this.
These speakers are for educational use only I guess. Or for use as blue-screen-of-dead-beeper in a PC-cabinet.
