Multiple bids from the same buyer on Ebay, WHY?
« on: March 12, 2009, 11:30:37 pm »
I have my Philips CD-i systems on ebay and I see that the same guy has put 3 bids on it and the price hasn't budged.
Why would someone keep bidding if they are winning?
I don't understand.  ???

He may not have been happy with his first max bid and increased it a few times.

BUT then if no one different bids will it still lock in at the beginning price/bid?

Yes until someone else enters their bid.

Do you think that this is a tactic to discourage other bidders?
If they see 3 bids they may not try because they think that the amount needed to win may be too high?
Just wondering, I'm new to ebay selling and have screwed myself before by not setting a high enough minimum bid.
Not the case this time, thankfully.
Still learning the hard lessons!

Thanks! ARCADIAC!

It probably is a tactic. I have used the 'inch up my bids until I get past the other guys proxy' several times, and it does seem to run off bidders. I have won a couple things for good prices with this method. It seems to dishearten some bidders to keep seeing the same name pop up on top over and over.

HOWEVER, that method is long gone now thanks to ebay hiding usernames.

either way, I will keep this method in mind.  ;D

FU very much!  :laugh2:

Bid it up for me a little!

Even with the hidden user name, the same bidder has the same alias, I logged out to check it and all 3 bids were the same name.

Oh well, at the very least I'll get my beginning bid, I was gonna start it lower but now I'm glad I didn't!
I learned that lesson the hard way, practically gave away a parts laptop a couple of weeks ago.  ::)

Here's hoping for a Sunday afternoon bidding frenzy!!

Exactly, the price isn't rising but his tactic removed my Buy It Now Price, setting it up to sell for considerably lower than I would like.   :censored:

I just find it weird that someone keeps bidding his own total upwards.
Must be raising his high proxy bid I guess.  :dunno

The better news is that there are 6 watchers, hopefully all different.
So maybe it will bid up at the last minute.
Frankly I was surprised to get a bid so early on in the auction, considering it's not exactly a necessary item, what with the economy as it is.

The seller can see the names of the bidders.  Other bidders are not privy to that information, as they have no reason to need it.

True, however go look at the auction, the public aliases are the same for the same bidders.  I noticed it awhile back when bidding on other stuff.

Thank God someone is bidding this up,  :applaud:
I wouldn't even use ebay unless I really needed the cash, too much hassle!

Sounds like a tactic for them to try and get it at a lower value than your Buy It Now by eliminating that option for other buyers.
I know I would not put in a max bid higher than the BIN, I would have just bought it before then.

Wasn't that concerned with BIN/reserve, just found it odd that the same bidder was listed again and again.
Don't get me wrong I would have liked to get the BIN price but I didn't really expect to.

I watch all kinds of stuff just to see what they go for. Usually doesn't mean I'm interested.

Heck, I've watched twenty or so vintage Blythe dolls just to see what insane prices people will pay for them.
