good working mame games for guns
« on: March 07, 2009, 08:03:37 pm »
The more I research this project the more problems I find. I have a Lethal enforcer upright with existing guns and a working nanao 26" monitor. I am contemplating doing a mame conversion.
I "think" I may have a solution for guns with a PC. Using a combination of Guncom2 guns, a J-pac, arcadeVGa card and the old guncom drivers I may be able to make this work

However mame's emulation of lethal enforcer and house of the dead sucks. Laggy sound and video on a Pentium duo with mame along with acknowledged errors in emulation may mean I am stuck

It works ok with the dual cpu version of Nebulas emulator but this is a lot trickier to configure on a cab especially with guns

I'd like to try gun games that work on mame so I can evaluate before I proceed?
Thanks

Yeah, the newer the games you get you will want to look for the oldest version of mame and the romset that you can find. A "certain" site  ;) has full rollback sets for download that have tons of versions optimized for all sorts of versions of mame. You can also look at specific emulators that run more efficiently than mame, and use your gfx processor, like

Model2emulator
Raine
nebula
zinc
final burn alpha

Then go from there. Get all the versions you can on a super striped down operating system and your ready to go. Check out Nlite, and trim down your xp disc.
