Kneival Woody Plans . . . Do They Exist?
« on: March 05, 2009, 03:32:03 pm »
I was wondering if anyone has the plans for the Woody cabinets done by Kneival.  My wife and I are huge admirers of the design.  I could try and reverse engineer the design, but having the plans would help a lot.  (I can see myself making the base too thin, or over-angling the monitor) If anyone has any information on these two cabs, please post.  They are both the exact same design, so the information on the two should be similar.  I sent Kneival an email before, but he's probably busy since I haven't seen him around here lately.

I believe the answer is no. From what I gathered, he had them up and some how they were abused (people sold them or something).

I don't know but it sounds like there was some drama involved and I haven't seen or heard of him since.

I emailed him for the plans several months ago and he sent me a pdf of all the dimensions. He really couldn't be a nicer guy. His email address is posted on his website. I'm sure he would give them to you if you asked.

Knievel is a *very* nice guy and I would suggest that you email him. I would also politely (for now) ask that nobody post his plans unless he posts them first.

I have no direct knowledge of any drama, but we can all see that he has not posted plans for public consumption, even if we believe that he has them organized, and need to respect that.

He's a friend, to some here personally and, more importantly, to the hobby in general and that is worthy of respect.

Besides, if you guys post his plans, then they will be worth less when I write my memoirs!

Kneivel is one of the most helpful guys I've come across in the hobby. He cut out my control panel for me, and then gave me detailed instructions on the assembly. After that through email he basically walked me through everything else I needed to do in order to get my control panel finalized. At that time I was a total noob, but he set me on firm ground.

I rarely post much anymore due to work constraints, has he still been posting much?

I sent him an message a few weeks ago using the address on his profile, and never heard back. I looked at his web site and did not see a way to contact him there. Am I sending it to the right place or does he just take awhile to respond. I would like to build a woody II and even got permission, all I need are the plans and I'm good to go.

They don't exist. Knievel has the magics that allows him to create solid-arcade-gold, out of thin air!!  ;D

*ehem* Seeing that Knievel's last activity on this board was in December, he's still actively apart of this forum. I'd send him a PM on this site, perhaps the next time he's online he'll see it.

It can't be hard to replicate. I know any people seem to think there's some magic air around creating plans but the best thing you can do is work with your own space requirements then start testing some rough dimensions (such as overall height and CP surface height) by knocking something up in cardboard. You have his pictures as a guide to the overall look so this should be enough.

I agree with you in theory, but this will be my first cab and I've only been doing woodworking for a few months. His cab is so nice, it would be good place to start so that my cab would have a shot of turning out ok  ;D

Check out Santoro's thread.  His cab is based on the Kneival Woody.  Very detailed drawings.

Right from the Woody link you provided. CP info.

Quote: "The CP top is 34"x 14". The CP box is 33" long x 12" deep overall. The back is 5 1/4" high and it slopes down to 4 1/4" at the front. I find the 1" of slope to be perfect.  You'll want to put about a 5° bevel on the top edge of the front and back pieces to match the slope of the sides."

Mine was inspired by the woody but ultimately shares no common measurements that I am aware of.

He's a great guy.  When I was a noob he helped me out tremendously.  He even sent me some of his artwork for his panels (files have been lost in a system crash).  But I agree, he is VERY friendly!
