LOOK WHAT I FOUND! XP64 lcd Topgun Driver
« on: March 04, 2009, 04:01:36 am »
This is a beta driver, and even admitted by the devs that it is buggy. It crashes, and does not always install, it has issues with accuracy and is just not that great. But.............its the only 64 bit lightgun driver in existance, and I want the clever among us to figure this out to possibly create our own driver for the 64bit mame use. I do not know what the legal implications would be, if they would even care, considering they are a Chinese company that has said that they have no intention of further developing a 64 bit driver. So use this at your own risk and please report back!

Would be nice to have a x64 Vista driver.  Most things that work for XP work in Vista but not all things.

Really no offense but its half of the persons fault for using XP64 because since the dawn of time everybody has known that it has the absolute worst driver support and at this point in time thats been made even worse since Vista 64 has replaced it, so what little support it did have it no longer has.

If you want x64 use Vista, period.  So far things are looking good for x64 support for Windows 7 even in the beta stage, though its very much like Vista and I think any driver from Vista works in Windows 7 for the most part.

64bit is going to take a sharp turn upward in terms of support since it is needed to break the 4gb ram barrier, two or three years ago when 2gb of ram became standard in a PC, its now 4gb or more.  So 64bit is starting to be native.  When stock systems like Dell start showing up with 64bit Vista and 4gb of ram in them as the normal setup, many more drivers and companies will be semi forced into getting 64bit stuff for us to use.

Id say 4gb is already the standard, but i7 has upped that to 6gb since it uses a 3 channel ram setup, though i7 is far from standard yet.

The only thing I need the x64 functionality for is mame. I would use dos64 or even make a hackintosh64 if I could get light guns to work with that and mame. As for mame boxes go, who cares if there is crazy driver support. The only thing you need your mame device to use is your on board functions, and a keyboard.

I completely know that xp64 has horrible support, and I really could care less. The challenge of just getting a 64bit os running just right is about 99% the fun of it for me. I am lazy and would love to just install a 32 bit xp, but it is getting old. As for vista, I do understand that it is a cliche just to make fun of it, when everyone else is. But I personally hate it,  it is bloated crap that takes even longer than xp to get 100%.

But for the sake of this simple post, and the fact that it is 3am, and I most positively am not making sense , just look at this driver please.

Vista sucks...period.  I'd just as soon not have a MAME rig than run that piece of crap OS.  I will "never" install Vista... regardless of the build... on any of my boxes... ever.  The jury is out on Windows 7...

As for Windows XP x64... aside from issues with my trackball... which turned out to be a hardware issue (optics board went bad)... I've had zero problems with XP x64 once I got it up and running (took a couple days to do that though).  I don't have a light gun at this point though so that is a moot issue for me.

Hmm attachment doesn't work for me. Still drivers are not easy things to write. And really it's the job of the manufacturer to write drivers for their hardware. I don't see why anyone should have to be begging them to do what they should be doing in the first place to support their own products.

Have to agree with FrizzleFried on XP64. It's a great OS and I haven't had any problems with drivers. The key here is use new hardware with it. Don't expect a 5 year old piece of hardware to work in it because there is no driver for it. New hardware in general have XP64 and Vista64 drivers. Everything is moving towards 64 bit, so it's in their best interest to have x64 drivers written for it.

They might not want to pay MS for the driver signing.  In that case they should be made aware of this method for bypassing it.

Download dseo12.exe from here.
http://www.ngohq.com/news/15043-how-to-increase-usb-sample-rate-in-windows-vista-sp1.html

Run it and put Vista64 in test mode.  Restart computer.  Install drivers.  Use dseo12 to sign the driver that is in the system32\drivers directory.  Restart computer again, and presto.  No driver signing to pay for.  Not the best solution, but cheap.

Then to get rid of the onscreen Test Mode text, just use:

ok! So part one, they make an unsigned driver. The only problem I see would be that a manufacturer would not be able to legally do that without having some sort of license to make developer drivers right? So that part would be done, now how do we get the rest?

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I have a quick question.  I downloaded the 64 bit beta driver and I could not get it to install.  If you look at HKems' forum, there is a poster on the site that got the driver to work via a modification.  The user stated:

Quote
I was able to make the driver work. I think the primary reason there were issues with it were due to the "vendor" not reflecting Xamd64... after a minor mod to the INF it installed and i am able to get to the calibration functions.

Anyone know what he is talking about with the modification to the inf file?  I am pretty sure that the poster on the ems forum (who was unanimous) was actually a BOYC user.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.  Here is an updated INF i rewrote.  I hope that you find it helpful.  You should be able to install the topguns on windows xp 64 bit with no problems.  gooooooood luck.
