few questions about sanwa joysticks
« on: March 03, 2009, 10:34:00 pm »
hey guys, i just bought some ultimarc U360 sticks, which i believe are based off of the Sanwa JLW sticks.  i love these sticks...alot.

anyway, i was looking at lizardick.com and saw that they have multiple colors of the bat tops available for the JLW sticks.

http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/joysticks.shtml

they are the LB-30-N units.

is it safe to assume that these will work on my u360 bat top shafts?

also,i was wondering how these colors compared to the happ buttons?  i have blue and yellow happ buttons in my panel, with black battops on my joysticks...i would love to have a blue and yellow bat top instead, but if they are going to be too different in color, i dont think i will bother.

the blue looks a little lighter than the standard happ blue, and the yellow looks a little brighter but it is so hard to tell from a picture without seeing them side by side...do any of you have any experience with these to tell me how they compare in color?

i'd hate to spend the money and have them look like crap with my buttons.

Grats on the U360's let me know how you like them after you had them awhile.  I figured with no tactile feedback it would be hard for me to use them for fighting games that use diagonals, also it was more expensive to get 2 of them than it was 2 standard joysticks and an encoder.  However for a standard 1 joystick setup its cheaper.

Did you get any accessories like the optional gates or springs?  I was thinking I would want the hard spring and the circular or octagonal gate, but read about so many issues installing or calibrating them that it sort of turned me away.

so far, i really like them.  my panel has only been functional for about 2 weeks now, but i am very happy with them.  i bought the longer shafts, medium springs, and octagonal restrictors.  however i really didnt' like the feel of the restrictor, so i took it back off.  i was a little concerned at first by the lack of clicking, however i seem to be adjusting just fine.  i am not a fighting game expert...far from it...however i found that i can pull off dragon punches in street fighter much easier with the u360 than i could with my x-arcade sticks.  they work pretty well as a 4 way stick also.  yeah..they lack the physical restriction of a good 4way stick, but they feel good and respond very well.  i haven't noticed any drop in my scores in pacman or donkey kong since switching from a dedicated 4 way to the u360s.

i went back and forth a long time tryign to decide if i should spend the money for the u360s...looking back, i'm glad i did.  my panel is only 12x30" so i didnt have alot of room.  i really wanted a trackball, and it would have been really crowded tryign to fit a dedicated 4 way stick in there yet also...

Check this colour selection:
http://www.zaorysin.com.ua/brand/sikkens/techinform/techinform08.htm
This is pretty accurate for sRGB calibrated monitors.
The blue from Sanwa bal-tops is like R5.52.49 (it's in my swatches but not in the scheme i see, but comparable to S0.40.60).
The Happ blue is T0.50.30

The yellow bal-top's from Sanwa are F2.55.75
The yellow Happ-button is F8.60.80

Arcadeshop.de has Sanwa bat-tops in sanwa colours, but no yellow. So I don't know if it is Sanwa yellow or Happ yellow. The image you show looks like sanwa-blue and happ-yellow  :dizzy:

Not sure if it helps, but I purchased 4 ball-tops from Lizard Lick, and they fit both the U360's and the JLW's on my panel. The thread size is the same on both.

Where did you get your long shafts for the U360's - and will they fit the JLW's too?

cool, thanks...

i bought the long shafts from ultimarc.com   i think the shafts is different in the u360, to accommodate the magnet attachment, so i dont think it will work with the JLW..but i could be wrong

and to Blanka....i just don't trust different sets of digital photos to judge color.  on lizardlick.com..they have pics of both...however you can see that the lighting is much different between the happ pics and the sanwa pics.

here is a pic i took of my panel the other day...the blue happ buttons look much lighter in this picture than they do in real life...judging by this pic and the sanwa bat top pic..they are pretty close....but my happ buttons look much darker in real life.

The long shafts we sell will fit the JLW Sanwa sticks. The J-Stik we sell is also a JLW stick.

The only limitation is the ball top and bat top shafts are different sizes so you cant put a ball top on a bat top shaft and vice versa.

Ahh..cool.  i have used a J-Stik then...my friend has a ball top J-stick in his 4 player panel that he uses as a dedicated 4 way stick.  it has a nice feel to it.  you do have to turn the restrictor on the bottom to change between 4 and 8 way modes...i havent used it in 8 way mode, so i dont know how it feels compared to other sticks....perhaps the next time i am over there, i'll see if i can switch it and try it out.

Word of warning, Lizard Lick is pretty backed up right now.  Due to the release of Street Fighter 4 they have gotten a ton of orders.  I put in an order recently and know I will probably not see it for a month.  No worries though, Chad is a good guy and always delivers.

Not trying to dissuade you, just saying if you do be patient.   ;)

it would probably be a little while till i order anyway...but i am not going to order unless i can find a pic of the sanwa blue and yellow stuff next to the happ blue and yellow stuff...if it looks stupid together, i'll just stick with my black bat tops.

Me neither, but I hold the real things against a colour swatches book, so there's no confusion about the colour any more.

Not exactly the same thing, but I have the U360's with the light blue ball tops and the Happ blue buttons.  They are close in color, but not exactly the same.  When you hold them next to each other the buttons are darker.  When you see them on a control panel spread out a little it is not as noticeable.

You can see the bat tops and buttons in this thread.
