Daphne and MaLa
« on: March 02, 2009, 07:10:11 pm »
I recently started using MaLa and have it up and running on a test PC with a few different emulators.  I tried loading Daphne today, but have run into an issue when trying to load games.  I used UncleT's guide to setup MaLa and used the batch file method.  I Keep getting an error that states "Bad command line or initialization problem".

To try and eliminate any issues with my MaLa configuration, I tried running the batch file directly from the directory.  A window opens with a Daphne error that states "ROM badlands.a13 couldn't be found in roms/badlands/, or in ./roms/badlands.zip  Read daphne_log.txt for help"

If I go to the Roms directory, there is a badlands.zip, so I am not sue why I am getting this error.

One thing to note is that I am using the latest version of Daphne and Daphne Loader.  When trying to run this game from Daphne Loader it works fine.  I noticed that Daphne Loader (which is in the same directory as Daphne) put some of the files in slightly different directories.  I'm not sure if this is the cause.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nick

There's an option with the loader to show the command line. Turn that on, and you can make your batch file match what is shown in the command line. That should get you up and running.

Thanks.  I gave that a try and I got the exact same error- even when trying to run the batch file directly.  It says it can't find the rom file, but there is a zip file of the exact same name it is listing in the roms directory.  I tried a couple of other games and got the same results.  All of them load correctly through the loader, but not from the command line.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have it figured out now.  The problem was that I still had the loader open at the same time and the files were in use.  I closed the loader and ran the batch file and the game loaded fine.

Thanks for the help.

I even more see no reason this can't be automated.

I am having a similar issue - but I can get mine to run just fine from the command line.

I can run this from the command line and it works great.

Another important note is I had to change the framefile to this as it could not be fould without the full path to the files:

D:\EMULATORS\Programs\daphne\games\lair

151   lair.m2v

Command line:

D:\EMULATORS\Programs\daphne\daphne.exe lair vldp -framefile "D:\Emulators\Programs\Daphne\framefile\lair.txt" -opengl -x 800 -y 600

When running from MALA Using the standard MALA setup (I added the emulator with no issues) I get:

log:

--DAPHNE version 1.0.6
--Command line is: daphne.exe D:\EMULATORS\RomFiles\Daphne\Dragons Lair.bat
--CPU : GenuineIntel 2200 MHz || Mem : 2048 megs
--OS : Windows XP/.NET || Video : NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
--OpenGL: Compiled In
--RGB2YUV Function: MMX
--Line Blending Function: MMX
--Audio Mixing Function: MMX
ERROR: Unknown game type specified : D:\EMULATORS\RomFiles\Daphne\Dragons Lair.bat
Bad command line or initialization problem (see daphne_log.txt for details).
To run DAPHNE, you must specify which game to run and which laserdisc player you are using.
For example, try 'daphne lair noldp' to run Dragon's Lair in testing mode.

Must be my setup through MALA (attached)?  any help appreciated.

Issue resolved - I figured it out.

Using Uncle Tom's MALA instructions first for directory structure and latest verison of daphne into the  "D:\EMULATORS\Programs\daphne" directory

frame files:

D:\EMULATORS\Programs\daphne\framefile\lair.txt

should look like this:

D:\EMULATORS\Programs\daphne\games\lair

151   lair.m2v

games should be put in their own directory:

D:\EMULATORS\Programs\daphne\games\lair
(all DL files go here)

D:\EMULATORS\RomFiles\Daphne
create bat files

example for dragons lair

start/wait %1 D:\EMULATORS\Programs\daphne\daphne.exe lair vldp -framefile "D:\Emulators\Programs\Daphne\framefile\lair.txt"  -opengl -x 800 -y 600 -sram_continuous_update -enable_leds -fastboot -nolog -fullscreen -blank_skips -blank_searches

name file "Dragons_Lair.bat"

in the options for MALA leave the executable field BLANK!!

put this in the roms field

D:\EMULATORS\RomFiles\Daphne
rom extensions should be "bat"

under options snap,
put "D:\EMULATORS\Snaps\Daphne"

name the snap file as "Dragons_Lair.jpg"

only problem so far is when you exit the game the layout gets shifted on the screen.  Probably a resolution issue.

 :D

thanks,
