Swapping X-arcade sticks/buttons
« on: March 02, 2009, 06:46:56 pm »
Can anyone please suggest me some sticks that would be easy to swap out the stock x-arcade sticks with? I don't want to have to solder or really do too much work to get them in just drop it in and play. I don't care if its Sanwa or Happ but I will mostly be playing shooters and 2d fighters. I also prefer balltop but like I said im going for the easiest best solution and bat top is fine. Here is the site I was looking up parts from - http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/joysticks.shtml

I switched one side out with the happ competition sticks and they fit just fine though to me (And probably only me) I really like the X-arcade sticks.

Do you guys know if the Sanwa  JLW-TM-8 Ball Handle Joystick, 4 & 8-Way Adjustable sticks would fit in? It would be nice to have a ball top thats adjustable..

here are the dimensions for the x-arcade sticks.. this is for the redesigned version, which i am assuming are the same as their old ones.

http://www.xgaming.com/reference/parts/Joystick_Button_Dimensions.jpg

i believe the ultimarc u360 is a modified version of the sanwa jlw stick, so they should have the same mounting plate...here is a link to the page with teh u360 dimensions

http://www.ultimarc.com/ultrastik_inst.html

they are very similar, but dont match up exactly....you could probably make them work with only minor modifications to the mounting plate.

EDIT:

i just checked my x-arcade sticks to my u360s and they seem to line up just fine.  i didnt unmount the u360s, but i held the x-arcade sticks up next to them from the back and the holes seemed to line right up with no problems.

So you think that those sanwas should fit just fine thing? Whats your opinion on the stick? Like I said I will be using it mainly for fighters and shooters but how does the 4 way to 8 way mode work?

Does U360 4-way mode just ignore diagonal inputs or am I thinking of something else?  ???

if i am correct about the u360 being the same as a sanwa JLW, then they should fit.  i have never used a JLW stick, so i dont know how they feel, or how they switch from 8 to 4 way..but i would guess it is by rotating a restrictor plate on the bottom of the joystick.

the only top switchable sticks that i know of are the magstik plus, and the omnistick prodigy..neither of which will mount right in the same holes as an x-arcade stick

as for how the u360 works in 4way mode..it doesn't ignore the diagonals...it just tells the pc that it is a different direction...you program it with a map like this:

so if you push up, then rotate teh stick around to the right, it will still send the up signal until you cross the 45degree mark, then it goes instantly to Right...that way there are no dead spots...like you would get when you put an xarcade stick in 4way mode.
