BYOAC's new server and trouble with Iinternet Explorer
« on: March 01, 2009, 09:37:18 pm »
I have not been able to get to this forum consistently for weeks now. Its usually 404 but now I get to the old server. Saw the message that the server has moded, updated my hosts file and still no luck- except sometimes????? :dunno TGried again just now and no luck

I'm trialling firefox which I just tried again and no problem- up comes the forum! Went back to IE- same error as before. TRied again just now and its back up

I'm usually pretty savvy with this stuff but for the life of me I'm stuffed if I know why this happens. Anyone?

AAARGH! I'm still getting this problem. I just don't understand it :hissy:

Here's what I've found
1. It usually happens early in the morning Pacific Eastern Time (I'm In Australia)
2. It is not consistent.
3. It happens with at least two different internet providers - TPG (which goes through Telstra) and Optus
4. The hosts entry does not work
5. If I ping the new ip address with the -r option it identifies it as www.arcadecontrols.com
6. If I enter the ip address in IE or firefox it comes up 404- not found

All this started happening with the new server. I suspect there's a DNS losing the plot after hours.

I can report this same problem, I get the "old server" message.

However, I _never_ get it at home (on my Mac, using Safari 4) using cable (UPC) connection.

I _did_ get it often on my laptop (Winblowz XP with Safari 4) using UMTS wireless internet connection. I guess maybe it's because of the hoster (Telfort) there.

I followed the directions on the error page (add an entry in the hosts file) and since then it works fine.

Still weird.
