photoshop 6 experts?

Newbie at this photoshop thing. I know how everyone hates when pics get posted that are way too big, so how in the world do I get the pics I've taken with my camera reduced down to a manageable size for our forum?

easy, load up your image, hit the "image" menu, go to "image size" and in the "pixel dimentions" section of the window that popps up change the size to something close to 640x480 or there abouts, that's reasonably "web-friendly" and save it as a jpg, with compression set to about 3 - so us dialup users have a fair chance :)

OH, and make sure "constrain proportions" is checked, or you might end up with a sqewed pic.

You will also want to change the dpi to 72 as a 640x480 at 300dpi is still very large. That option is in the same place as the size.

if you don't want to mess with pixel dimension (640x480) you can change the units to inches in the same screen.  That's what I do.

Change the dimensions, and you can go to FILE...SAVE FOR WEB...

Humm guys, you're not explaining it right!

The internet's most compatible res. for pictures is 72 dpi!

For printing a image, the resolution must or should be at least 150 dpi!

(300 dpi recommended)

The image size counts for the screen display and photoshop size/detail!  :)

The rest is compression quality but i'm not gonna explain that here! :)

if your concerned about posting just go to file-save for web and PS will optimize it for you.

in terms of actual size just open up image-image size. make sure constrain proportions is checked.

That's why I recommend using SAVE FOR WEB - it optimizes the image for the web.
