Cheap 4player LED wiring ... will this work?
« on: February 27, 2009, 06:53:29 pm »
I've got a mad scientist LED wiz wiring question and I was hoping that I could get an answer or some advise.

I'm trying to cut my CP Cost and had an idea of wiring a 4 player CP (P1 &2 6 buttons each, P3 &4 4 buttons each and a EI Track ball) all though 1 LED wiz.

Here's what I was thinking:

Wire the 5v (or positive) side of all of the #1 buttons RGB LEDS to the same 3 outputs (wash rinse repeat for buttons #2 - 6 & track ball) then spit the ground 5 times and hook up a relay (and diode?) to each split.  Then hook each of the relays to it's own output. (total of 23 outputs used)

When the LED WIZ sends power to the relay(s) the Player stations/trackball that will lit up.  Right (Every player should have the same controls anyway, right?)

1) Will this work with out frying my LED controller?  I concerned about hot switching the load while the controller is active.  ... and any thing else I'm not thinking of

2) How difficult would it be to reprogram the controller to power 1 output for each active player station while reading the controls.dat file to determe the number and color of buttons or track ball(I assume this is the default of most of the software available).

Browse the examples here and look at those people who've created lit panels. Quite often things are alright in theory but you may get the best advice from going to those experienced people directly with this.
