IPAC4 Help
« on: February 27, 2009, 04:16:44 pm »
I turn my cab. on tonight and for my IPAC4 it says unknown usb device. This has happened once before but when I unplugged it and plugged it back in it came right up. I have tried other USB slots and I keep getting the same error.  ??? Tried to repower the PC, same thing.

Help!

From the Ultimarc website under I-Pac:

Quote
Problem: In USB mode, the I-PAC was not detected properly once before and now I can't get it out of this state.
You will need to remove it from Windows and let it re-detect. Go into Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Hardware. Open up the USB controller by clicking on the plus sign next to it. Under this heading will be displayed all the USB devices. Right click on all devices one by one except the controller itself and Root Hubs and select "uninstall". Now unplug and re-plug the I-PAC. It should be re-detected.

I'd try that first.

I'm pretty sure it is the device, I just plugged it into another PC, same deal.  :hissy:

Reading through that page is probably sound advice for any I-Pac owner.

Basic troubleshooting then.  What does the LED do when you plug it in?  Flash once and stay lit, flash multiple times, not flash at all?

Have you checked the grounds and wiring?  Are you plugging it into a hub or directly to the pc?

All else fails, email Andy directly.

The self-test LED is very useful in troubleshooting. It should flash once for a USB connection and twice for PS/2, then stay lit.

I will reply to your email.

See, look at that.  Andy's already been to the pub after work, had a few pints and is ready to help!  Can't ask for much more than that.

I wish... not finished work yet, been working on a new version of WinIPAC which I have just uploaded. Could murder a pint of London Pride actually...

Here is the deal. The top test button stays lit and the bottom button lights for a second and then turns off but the top one stays on all the time solid.

P3-4 Test Lit
P1-2 Test Off but lights quickly on connect of USB cable.

Ideas?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Fixed!

Feeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwww.

That almost killed my weekend, thank you God.

Thanks Andy for all your help but in the end I had to open my CP and reseat the cable to the board. It appears it was plugged in there well but for whatever reason it needed to be reseated.

My CP does not flip open without taking it off my cab so I try to avoid going in there too much. I curse Scott at Mameroom everytime I need to get inside there as one of my request was for my CP to flip open. He talked me into not having this feature but I think I am going to be looking into a way of doing this soon for myself.

Visitor Q - where you from?

Just wondering because Mameroom is a local establishment.
