A special Atari games day
« on: February 24, 2009, 02:39:11 am »
I just got done playing 720 and Paperboy, and I got my highest scores on both, it think. I was definitely pulling some rad moves on the ramp park, first time around, two killer inverts in a row, and some pretty big air both times. Unfortunately, I couldn't make up two grand after that park for another ticket - BUT, of course my total score would round out at just above thirty-five grand!

By the way, I was using a U360 for this, and after getting used to really hugging the 'curve', I think the score was due to the higher resolution of an analog stick than using a digital one.

Paperboy was pretty neat, too. I only got to Saturday, and I think I've cleared the week before, but I got some pretty good points.

Way to go.  FWIW...

By the way, I was using a U360 for this, and after getting used to really hugging the 'curve', I think the score was due to the higher resolution of an analog stick than using a digital one.

Definitely.  The ROM is coded so that if too much of the optical spinner count is skipped, you don't get as much (or any) credit for spin.  Since mame is simulating the original controller, and has 144 positions per rotation, and a digital stick has 8, that's a lot of skipped.  So while you can "play" with a digital stick, you lose a lot of points; and there is no way that mame can get around it.
