MsPac - finally, the blue boards!
« on: February 21, 2009, 10:39:22 pm »
I'm not a fan of using cheats to get to places I haven't personally seen in a game, and only use savestates if I have to split and come back to a game, which isn't often.

I have actually seen the blue boards on MsPac. Once. Four years ago...and quickly lost ---my bottom--- on the first board. For some time, my requirement was to get through the first five boards on one pac - not just because I needed them, but because I felt it was then worthy of going all the way. However, for a while now, I just haven't been able to meet that. Add in the desire to make the first two boards 'perfect' (or at least as far as eating ghosts); sometimes I haven't made it past the first two, so involved have I been in the task. And I'm so intense about it that I just reset the game at the first death. No hesitation. Next.

Well, tonight....after probably fifteen consecutive resets....finally, tonight, I've made it through board five on my first pac, and then some!

Woohoo, second red board!

Ah, lost two. Fourth board, though!

....and intermission!!

Second (or maybe third?) blue board!

AND.....I would've passed the fourth board....all I had to do was hit the tunnel on the left, which I was planning on, and then finished it right up....

...but the stick ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- me! They was chasin me hard, westward across the lower part of the board, and I missed going up, right at the last, partly because of the round restrictor in my U360. (Almost doesn't count...but, well, I didn't save the state. Perhaps I should've.) This is definitely one game where I can see why people want original or at least reunion sticks.

Yea you're not kiddin, playing this on a 8-way is a nightmare!  :timebomb: Not to be responsible for things you may do to your cab in anger if anyone else should try this now...

I've  been playing a lot of ms pacman lately too, and its really funny like you said how if i actually try to get perfect scores on every level, I always end up game over and pissed off in the first few levels. If I just run through the game just to clear stages, I can actually get a higher score and get much farther, its strange how it all works in your head.

Uhmmm, not that I'm a good player, but I can always reach the red boards. After that it gets tough but I've reached the blue one's a good number of times.

Ms.Pac is probably the game I played most in the 80's. Mostly because it was close to my school and we were there every break. (And they only had one machine).

Getting perfect scores with the ghosts is close to impossible because it's random compared to Pac.

heh, me too!  I can usually get around 80,000 on an average run which almost always gets me to the blue boards.  I've made it back to the red board quite a few times too after clearing 3-4 blues (whatever the number is).  I do know what you mean about getting perfect scores on the first few boards.  I used to always restart unless I got 14,600 on the first screen but then I realized I was never really having any fun.

Actually, getting perfect scores with the ghosts is relatively simple -- if you have patience to learn the hold spots on the boards.

That said, I still suck at this game.

My DK low scores
-------------------
1) 180700
2) 165000
3) 162900
4) 162600
5) 158500

I don't have that hard a time getting a perfect ghost score - and sometimes including the fruit - on the first board. After that one, I don't try, and it doesn't have to happen. It's just that I get caught up in doing it and then die. If I don't die, whether score's perfect, I move on. I can almost always get to the red boards. But I may only have one pac left. I was pretty masterful in parts on that game, especially for not being familiar with the blue board, but not that masterful.

Yeah, an 8-way is suckola. That's one reason I returned my X-arcade, way back when.
