need help w/ USB gas/break pedal
« on: February 21, 2009, 07:26:29 pm »
Pictured below is the pedal board and main PCB from a 270 degree USB wheel. I cut the main harness, as it was connected to the aux PCB inside the wheel housing through the wheel shaft. This is where my problems are. I get no response from the pedals. Windows sees the device in gamepad properties. Mame sees it.

??? Mame sees it, but you get no response?

More info on your setup and symptoms, please.

Without that, I'm going to guess the pedal is not mapped to the game's pedal input.  Most driving games use the pedal type input, but a few games just use button 1 if it was a digital pedal.  If the game has a pedal type input, map your analog pedal to the "pedal analog" port, and NOT the "pedal inc" nor the "pedal dec".

I'm talking about analog pedal games. I'll re-phrase: Windows sees the FGT Rumble Wheel. Mame32/UI sees it. No response in mame. I also get no response when trying to calibrate it.

Here's the story: I cut the main cable from the PCB to the wheel PCB so I could be free of the wheel assembly. However, while wiring it back together, I didn't unplug it and crossed some wires. (Yeah, I know, I thought about just before I did it.) That blew the LED in the middle of the wheel PCB, and since then nothing has worked on it. I've thought of just tossing what's left, but thought I'd come back and see whether I can easily fix it or something. I guess my best bet is just doing a mouse hack straight to the pots inside the pedal board, huh?

The wheel was probably wired internally to the wheels pots.  Since you have
broken that connection, it does not complete the needed circuit path correctly.

The pedals probably are not optical (that is very rare),  so a mouse hack is not what you would need.   You can take it apart and wire an analog joystick to the pots in the
pedals.  You could probably use one of those dual analog gamepads.

...Windows sees the FGT Rumble Wheel.... I also get no response when trying to calibrate it.

If windows doesn't see the pedal movements, mame won't either.

It does sound like the board is busted.  As Xiaou2 said, joystick hack (or get an analog joystick encoder like the u-hid or apac).

Or if you think it's just the diode (Light Emiting) that's burnt, you could try replacing that.  It's probably more than that, but....

Yeah....some hours later it came to mind that no a mouse is optical....um, yeah. Anyways, yeah, probably burnt and will have to use a DS or something. Thanks.
