GP40 Wiz Help
« on: February 20, 2009, 08:32:46 am »
Hello BYOAC new member LOOONG time lurker, I have a bit of a issue that hae me  :banghead: and wanted to see if anyone has any advice. I just made a two person 6 button cp using the GP49 Wiz. Windows sees all the buttons work in the game controller inside the control panel and player one works fine(at least two buttons do, have not found a fighting game that will work....) but the issue I am having is with the second stick and buttons. All buttons register but once I am in MAME or any front end I get nothing out of it. Any troubleshooting you can think of would be greatly appreciated!

Have you gone into the control configuration screens in MAME (by hitting TAB) and set up the controls?

Yes Randy I have tried that as well as Joy to Key with no luck. I could not even get Joy to Key to work with the player one setup even though I know it works since I was able to use it in MAME. I am about to the point of just trying to re-wire the GP Wiz to reflect the default joy and button configs for MAME since they seemed to be labeled correctly IIRC... BTW thanks for the response. Its nice to see a vendor that is active and willing to support the products he sells!

Probably best to send me an email about this.  If the hardware shows up in the OS test screens, everything is working properly.  All that is left after that is getting your software configured.  If the issue is in the front end, then it's a front end issue, and so on.

Is this still an active product line ?  Or has it been dis-continued ?

Its stock status is "sold out" :

Ok bumping this one back up because I am still really stuck. No matter what emu I use I have having all kinds of issues with my second player joystick and buttons. I can remap the controller and it grabs all the inputs but some games it works, same it does not. The odd thing is the player one side works perfectly. Prime Example is Marvel vs Capcom. The player one side works with 0 issues. Player two side the joy will not work at all and only 5 out of the 6 buttons will work. Tried a few two way games and the stick would only work about 50% of the time. When going inside the control panel on Windows XP both axis show responsive and all buttons show working. PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm hesitant to ask this, but are you actually using a GP-Wiz49 interface?  The 49-ways don't work with a standard GP-Wiz40, if that's what you have.

Heh, no problem.. That makes things a little more clear.  But still, if everything works in the control panel, and it works in some games, then I can only assume that MAME is set up to properly recognize the control.  At this point, you need to make sure that the games you play are set up to recognize the way you have the board wired.  If you already have custom configurations set up, the default configuration will be ignored.  You may have to  delete, or edit the custom configs to reflect the current control scheme.

That is the odd part MAME was not reading the stick or buttons at all until I forced it to but it is reading the p1 side of things fine.
