Need help with SpinTrak
« on: February 18, 2009, 06:18:39 pm »
 :'(

Well a massive fu?? Up on my part. while fitting the CP back and forth working on dimensions i caught the spintrak wire and basically ripped it out. The damage is in the pic below. Im going to attempt to repair the wire and see if i can get her working again.

Bit peeved because of this but never the less if any one has a spintrak and knows wich wire goes were from left to right could you let me know so that i can repair this one. I know that the first wire on the left is red as it still has some of the track left on it :( ...

Thank you guys.

Mick

sorted all repaired from guess work ...

from left to right ..

Left =5v
next = x1
next = Ground
last = x2

Basically i ground down the broken trace then used window quick silver which is the same stuff used for trace repair. left it 5 min then soldered new wires. Tested and working fine .. thank god ...

happy as larry.

Do you know when you de ice your car on the morning and it uses heated elements on you back window. well this stuff repairs the trace and is 80% silver. It costs about £15 (changed my lass said it was this much) for a small tube and lasts quite a few years.

All i did was use a fiber pen to rub down the PCB and then using a pin and a magnify glass i re traced the broken line and left a small flat blob on the end so that i could solder to it.

It set up my multi station to solder at 10 watts (any higher and it would have burnt off the trace work) and then solderd every thing back and then tested with a multi meter and then tested it out on my pc once done and its all working now.

If you ever need any info in soldering id be glad to help. My past works includes lots and lots of trace repair on xbox's and xbox 360 and many other consoles , all so in my past ive removed and soldered new GPU's on GFX cards due to crushed cores (cannot do them any more now though due to bad eye site) all so bit of a wiz with repairing mini Caps and the like and working on Micro cars and upgrades.

The best advice i can ever give for repairs though is some simple advice.

All ways work cleanly.

All ways use a decent soldering iron with a pin point.

If possible have a fiber pen handy and a flux pen.

Take your time and use low watt solder so it melts quickly and doesn't burn off tracks.

Thanks for all of the info on your repair.  Do you know what type of solder you used (lead or lead-free?).

I had a similar situation where all of the wire came out.

I'm new to soldering.  I added flux to the end of the wires and then some solder.  I then put a little flux on the Spintrak connection point and tried to solder the wire to the connection point.

Three of the four wires I was able to get to stick.

I feel like maybe i'm doing something wrong.

Do you have any advice?

Thanks
