Wiring the CP. What buttons do I need???
« on: February 17, 2009, 02:13:56 pm »
I'm going to wiring up my CP once my parts come in. I don't want to be left in the dark when it comes to wiring it up.

My cocktail is going to be identical to this:

So you obviously have 6 "action" buttons, 1 button for the "player" button. That leaves 2 additional open button holes per player. What should I assign that last buttons for?

Do I need more buttons? Less? Help a noob out! =)

Coin and Pause, then make Start plus Coin or Pause "EXIT"

Can it be setup so it's "coin" "pause" and you press them simultaneous for "exit" ?

Does each player need their own "coin" ?

yeah, you can make it so that you press multiple buttons to perform an action.  just be aware of the possible problems.  for instance, if someone happens to hit the pause key as you are inserting a coin, this could exit your game.

you should have a coin button for each player..or you can make it so that it is a combo (for instance start + button 1 at the same time inserts a coin)

I would only allow player one to exit.

If you set each pause to a different key, then say "Pause = A, B, C, D," you shouldn't have a problem.

yeah, but that takes up more precious inputs on the encoder.

Well, I like having the option to change any button I want to a different function. Hell, I'd also add pinball buttons to that thing! :)

There's an empty button slot, though, so he might as well use it.

You could always just have the player 1 and 2 buttons, along with two credit buttons from Groovygamegear.com

Then you can simply use button "plugs to cover up the holes, until you decide what to do with them later.

(I've attached a pic of my panel showing a plug installed below)
