Need help with Arcade Vga 2
« on: February 15, 2009, 09:35:48 am »
Hi everyone.

I've been using AGP AVGA for several years. Decided to upgrade the computer, need to use PCI AVGA.  Was able to get it to work partially with Andy's help. Still having some issues I need to sort out.

Here is where I am:

On the start up I get ATI desktop Control Panel has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message. (same if I try to use it any time after boot up). I ended up uninstalling it all together.

I do get the galaga icon on the taskbar. It lists resolution from 240x240 to 1024x768 with 800x600 selected as current. If I select 1024x768 it still works but the screen is larger than the display and I have to PAN left and right, up and down to get to the task bar and icons. This is after I reduced picture size using monitor controls to the minimum. I have a dead space around the active screen and I still have to PAN to get around the screen. When pointer is at the top, the bottom part of the picture including task bar is missing and so on. If I bring pointer down to get to the task bar, the upper portion of the screen is not visible. FOR NOW THIS IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE I am having.  :banghead: Any suggestions on how to get rid of panning? Perhaps this is something that could be adjusted thru ATI desktop control panel but I can't get it to work, it crashes every time, tried re-installing it still the same issue....The only refresh rate available under display properties is 59HZ and there is a lot of flicker as compared to AGP card I used before even though I used it at only 60Hz refresh rate (75Hz was also available).

Under Display properties I have two monitor choices. Both Monitor 1 and Monitor 2 are listed as Default Monitor on Arcade VGA2. If I chose Monitor 1 only 800x600 and 1024xt68 is available. If I chose monitor 2 I have other higher resolutions but it has no affect since Monitor 1 is the one that is being used.

I am pretty sure the drivers are installed correctly. If I do a forced installed as per instructions I get message : The wizard can not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed. I tried both XP and XPPCIE folders under AVGA drivers. AVGA is listed under display adapters as Ultimarc Arcade VGA. I could uninstall AVGA and re-install it as per Andy's instructions with no problem. But this has no effect, everything I described above remains the same.

If I try to run Mamewah, it starts but the screen goes black and than into "disconnect" mode. Error log says 800x600@60Hz, 32 bit color selected after 2 attempts. I have to reboot after that to get the monitor to work.  I could start mamewah in safe mode.

I also contacted Andy, he is probably away for the weekend. I am anxious to get it to work. Thank you for your help.

This is not anything to do with the ATI control panel. The reason is you have not installed the Tri-Sync utility this time around, and you probably did before, because you have a monitor which will handle 1024 X 768 (and also 640 X 480 non-interlaced at 31Khz).
