Can someone solve a problem with me? (outputing 31khz ect)
« on: February 14, 2009, 05:36:23 pm »
Ok, i have a Sega Blast City cab with a tri-sync (15/24/31khz)Nanao MS9 monitor with a VGA input. I'm trying to output a pc that is running XP at 800 x 600 that has this VIA chrome9 HC IGP onboard video. I'm not using any video card. What happens is when i hook it up, turn it on, the mobo start up screen looks crisp, then it runs it start up checks, then it goes to the black Windows XP  logo screen with the looping progress bar at the bottom (looking razor sharp i might add) but once it gets past that to the desktop i cannot see anything but streaked colors ect.  Now i dont know what the startup resolution or khz is but that works fine. Once it goes to the desktop ...? In the windows settings the lowest khz setting is 56 not 31 which it the highest my Nanao monitor can take. What am i missing here?

A Nanao MS9 is tri-sync ??

The 56 is not the frequency you need to be looking at...... that is the refresh rate.

Lower the 800x600 and see what happens. (like 640x480)
Which VGA resolutions are already at the 31khz by the way.

ok, i feel dumb. But i thought the best res on the monitor was the 800 x 600 not 640 x 480? Either way, thanks

640x480 is available if you hit "Advanced" (everything's under "Advanced" in Windows; you know that, right?) and then find the "List all modes" button.  I think that's on the Monitor tab (I don't use Windows, so going off memory).  It's there, though.

Be aware that the WinXP GUI is designed assuming 800x600 minimum, hence why they make 640x480 difficult.  This means that many dialog boxes (including the Display Properties dialog that you're using to do this) will not fit entirely on the screen.
